And we forget Alvin Garrett...Cosell maybe wasn't likely racist either. But it was wrong even then. Dolph certainly could remember this.

Common man. Calling a black person a monkey has been used by racists for a long, long time. It has ties and roots in racism that go far back and is deeply racists because of the history of using that word for degrade. Calling a black man King Kong has NOT been done for racist reasons in the past, and it not associated with racism at all. Calling someone King Kong has been associated with power, and dominance, NOT RACISM. There is a HUGE, HUGE difference between the two, and I think even you understand this.

But HC in his time, the uproar supporting him was big using the same arguments.

My points. Firing? No, unless he'd been advised previously.

Should he have known better. Absolutely. You know that too.

WTF??? How can you even begin to say what Dolph said deserves to be fired under ANY circumstances?

Being called King Kong under the hoops has nothing to do with race and everything to do with paying a great player a compliment.

Wow...someone's always gotta be the naysayer. There is a time and a place for PC, THIS isn't one of them.

Anyone comparing what HC and what Dolph said is a stretch. It sounded bad then and sounds worse today. Anyone with a brain and ears knows that. Dolph did absolutely nothing wrong and was complimentary to a players dominace on the boards and most every intelligent life form knows that!

Of course “Monkey” is off limits, it has been used forever as a term to degrade and demean. Why is King Kong off limits? It has never, ever been associated with racism or being derogatory in any way. It has been a COMPLEMENT, for going on over a decade. Denzel made it this way, since training day for sure. All races use it as a complementary term, there isn’t 1 thing racist or any racist history with using the term “King Kong” at all.

Monkey = primate

King Kong = ape = primate.

To say there is no link at all is disenegenuous

Can you not discuss wo insults? People do associate it. Not so much whites from Iowa.

None of us know whether it was a slip to an outright racist comment with not knowing or caring to being rebellious against a directive.

You never convince some tgat he should have known better in todays world.

I get the Barta hate. It needs to be looked at independent of that. If he was instructed not to do that.....

Any broadcaster should study what not to say.

I'm sure broadcasters to study what not to say. I'm guessing King Kong isnt on any list anywhere. Nor should it have been. The new list will have it now. That list keeps getting bigger and bigger.

Some words are compliments in some circles and insults in the same circles depending on the context it was used and if/when it used by friends and loved ones or by somebody else. While those same words used by people of a different races are viewed as very racist regardless of intent. We all know this. Some may not agree. Some people may be confused by this. But you should know better than to compare a black man with anything that resembles a monkey.

He didn't call him a monkey or an ape, he called him King Kong as it relates to strength under the basketball hoop. Much like in the movie The Scout where Steve Nebraska was referenced as "Kong". Dolph's comment was a compliment and used the Kong reference to indicate strength. Only a PC fool, or a SJW, would take it any other way.

I never said he did. Only a fool would suggest that he did. He called him "King Kong". He compared a black man to a fictional animal that resembles a monkey/gorilla/ape etc.

While some believe it was intended as a compliment (I am in that category) others may view it as a racist insult. As I said above, when it comes to race, what one views as an insult, others can view as racially insensitive.

Everyone agrees there is a link that can be made. Most just think that you have to try really hard and be kinda racist to find that link.

HF used to use KK a lot. His service toward civil rights is well known. Get what you are saying but this isnt 1985.
