I have not paid attention due to travel demands and graduations. Haven't heard a word about the league this year. Is on or has it fallen by the wayside?

I could see the PTL going away in the near future. The quality of play seems to deteriorate more each year and now they're having trouble finding enough players.

The first summer I covered it in 1998, guys like Lohaus, Earl and other ex-Hawkeyes were in it. That's not the case much anymore with the exceptions of Matt Gatens, who played off and on when he was back from Europe. He's probably done now that he's coaching. I remember Reggie Evans coming back and playing the year after he finished at Iowa.

Are high school players allowed to play in the PTL?

I thought I saw somebody post that Locure from North was playing in the Capital City League. Made me wonder about the PTL and if not, there may be an opportunity to get some of the top high school guys to play against some of the local college talent.

They can. Uthoff played in it the summer before his senior year and the kid from Mt. Vernon that is walking on this year played last summer. I Do agree that more former Hawkeyes would help but not many of them are still in the area from recent teams. Jarryd Cole played for a couple years after he graduated too.

If high school players can participate, how can they have a shortage of players? They must not have a very strong base of leaders/sponsors helping to make it happen. If anything, the Cap City League coaches seem too much into it and actually care about the outcome of the games.

High school players only play during June, 2, maybe three games. Then, they head out for the July evaluation period on the AAU circuit. A lot of them take campus visits during June or are attending camps, like Patrick McCaffery, who is at the NBA camp this week.

So, that keeps the AAU players out of the league, but surely there are plenty of others who would like to play against real college players.

And what about former players who are still in the area? Or summer school students. There is no shortage of good players at the CRWC.

Most high school players with the ability to compete against guys from Iowa and UNI play AAU. Others, like Connor McCaffery, play baseball. I just don't think there will be much of a infusion of talent to make it a viable league going the high school route.

There are junior college players from in the state that play in the league. The tryouts are open to everyone so if there were guys in the area wanting to play, they could.

Does the PTL need to look at merging with the CCL? Maybe have games played in both North Liberty and Des Moines? I'm just thinking out loud here and really don't know the answer.

GO HAWKS!!!

Pretty sure this would not be allowed under NCAA rules. Geographical restrictions.

The lack of former players coming back is certainly the issue I'd say. But with them all playing over seas and what not it just is what it is. Having guys like Marble/White/Oleseni all come back would be awesome. It's just not going to happen...

I think Duez Henderson played many years after. There was another player who seemed to play every year who was quite a bit older but looked like he did his senior year. Name slips my tongue right now.
