Who's been our best player since Alford left.

Just curious who everybody thinks our best player has been in the last 10 years. I think Aaron White and Devyn Marble would get votes. Matt Gatens was a great player. Maybe Jaryd Cole. This isn't limited to players who finished at Iowa just anybody that played here.

I'm not even going to give this any thought. I will just go with the NBA guys that know more than I do and say Marble since he's playing on basketball's biggest stage.

I'll throw in Gatens. He didn't make the NBA, but I think he was mentally tougher than Dev, and a better senior leader. He just had an inferior team surrounding him than Marble did. White would be a close 3rd for me.

Dev, no question. He's the best player we've had since before Alford left, IMO. Going back at least as far as Pierce.

Devyn Marble and it's not even close..

IMO no way on Aaron White he just disappears in way to many games. White would come in last with those guys you mentioned. 1. Marble 2. Gatens 3. Cole 4. White

Gatens meant more to this program than anyone else....Imagine how bad it would have been if he left.

We will always be indebted to Gatens. He transfers and Lick stays at least another year, speeding the Hawktanic to the bottom of the ocean and delaying our recovery even further.

But to answer the OP, Marble. Another awesome 2-star story.

Gatens got screwed with the teams he had to play on. What a waste of his talents. Wrong coach and style. Could you imagine him on this team?

Marble is over-rated imho. Really not clutch when it matters. Not that he is not a good player and he certainly brought things to the table. And, how many times has Marble been demoted this year to the developmental league???

For me, it is Matt Gatens. Imagine if he was on this currrent team. That guy came on strong his senior year and that guy wanted to be a Hawk. Gatens by a mile.

Yikes! So that run to the NIT title game wasn't clutch? You should cheat on your taxes, the IRS can't prosecute you if you can prove your memory is broken.

Probably true but he was never as good as his dad, not even close. Hats off to both of them and a thank you for wearing the IOWA uniform.

Looking at the whole body of work. NIT run was fun, but that was the NIT. He could not do it in the Big Ten on consistent basis.

It's hard to argue one way or the other. Marble on Licks team I think he would have done just as well or maybe better but I think if Gatens was on Fran's team the team would be a whole lot better but I don't know if he would score as much. Things would open so much more for other players with the threat he would be for his shooting. In the end I don't really know so I just wasted 10 seconds of your life.
