Who's been our best player since Alford left.

Sam and Steve Alford was a pretty potent combination in Iowa City, too. Doug Collins gives Chris Collins some pointers and Chris has done pretty well at Northwestern.

True, that. But Doug Collins isn't officially on Chris' staff at NW.

As a Badger fan, Gatens was the killer. He had some dynamite games against UW and carried a very weak team to victories in Fran's first couple years. Remember when "Fran owns Bo"? That was all Gatens

Gaten's was a Badger killer. That game he had at Carver against them he was unconscious

Dev, although I also think he contributed to last year's slump. Cole was a solid Hawkeye -- he was forced to play a position above his physical size and skill set and his body took a pounding every game. But he battled hard every minute and left it all on the floor, and I loved him for that.

On my list, Uthoff is rising with a bullet and could be No. 1 when all is said and done. Without his play and a couple key, difficult baskets late, we don't even take lowly Northwestern to OT yesterday. Chew on that with your eggs and bacon this morning. Ugh.

It's Ash Wednesday. No meat for me.:(

Marble, White, Uthoff, Jok, TONS of potential in our Frosh class. Iowa basketball is going through a nice lil revitalization.

If I'm reading Doc's question right, it isn't who turned into the best NBA player, it's who do you think the best IOWA player was. To me it comes down to Gatens, Marble, and Uthoff. and IMHO, it's a crap shoot.

Gatens was the best shooter of the last decade but was used out of position. Marble had a great all-around game and arguably the best killer instinct of the three. JonDMiller has pointed out on numerous occasions that Uthoff probably has the best skill set of any Hawkeye in recent memory but lacked said killer instinct.

To me, it's 1A, 1B, and 1C. They're all GREAT players at different positions. If you were to start an All-Iowa team over the last 10 years, you start with those three.

Just my $.02 .. .. GO HAWKS!!!

Now I'll go with Marble. 3 years from now my list will look like this:

1. Cook
2. Moss
3. Bohannon
4. Pemsl
5. Marble

Nobody was less clutch than Marble....and I mean nobody.

I agree - he never seemed to cash in at the clutch spots of games but Marble was the start of the rebuild - the first of Fran's development projects and was basically all Iowa had (though White eventually got there too). If I had to rank em I'd say 1. Uthoff 2. Marble 3. Jok 4. White. I give Marble the nod over Jok because he was just a better all around player IMO - not a better shooter, but better at just about every thing else. I think there are several that could eventually surpass or equal these guys on the roster now including Baer, Jbo, Moss, Cook and Pemsl

Is it a trick question?

C'mon you guys are hyping Gatens a little too much, I doubt if he would start on this current team. He was slow, played average defense at best and disappeared when anyone with an ounce of athleticism guarded him.

I'm not even going to give this any thought. I will just go with the NBA guys that know more than I do and say Marble since he's playing on basketball's biggest stage.

Correction: He WAS playing on basketball's biggest stage, if you call the paltry amount of minutes he got "playing". He's playing in Europe this season.

Edit: My bad. I didn't check the date of the post. Marble was in the NBA at that time.
