Sure Illinois is (was) overrated and will live and die by the three, but I did NOT see this happening. NW looked atrocious last weekend.
Only 11 three pointers attempted by both teams combined in the first half.
 




Maybe this is the year NU banishes two monkeys.....#1--win a bowl game, and #2--make the NCAA BB tourney.
 












This is was a fluky in which a still bad Northwestern team beat an Illinois team that is on a downward slide. I look at Northwestern's remaining schedule and I don't really see too many other wins from them. In my mind they are still horrible.

Of course I want our win at their place to be a good win so I hope I'm wrong.
 






I dont think this has anything to do with the Big Ten being "crazy" this year. Illinois is going to look like they did tonight several more times this year. They are a mediocre squad that relies heavily on the 3. This game was surprising but lets not get carried away....NW still sucks hard

This was not a well played game by either team.

If this keeps up, Illinois will be looking for another coach at the end of the year...they play way too much one-on-one and have no team concept.

That would be a big mistake. I like the idea but the AD cannot be that stupid to fire Groce after just 1 season.
 


Illinois fans are convinced that the team sucks because it has all of Weber's crappy players, and once Groce starts recruiting for Illinois, he'll start getting guys like Greg Oden like he did at OSU.

Of course, Bruce Weber's last three recruiting classes were all ranked top 15 in the country. Although no one from the 2010 class remains, everyone from the 2009 and 2011 classes are there, so while the depth may be iffy, the talent is there. Groce just can't coach. I think he might be basketball Zook.
 


Also, they are absolutely convinced that a large part of the problem is that they're no longer allowed to take a white kid from Glencoe, dress him up like a non-existent tribesman, and have him dance for their amusement.

The few times I've watched Illinois this season this is my take, too. Very little team play, and not enough individual talent for one or two players to carry the load. Take away the 3, they got nothing.

Spot on. Weber's final recruiting classes were right in line with where Illinois should probably peak, yet the narrative on Weber was that he sucked. I love listening to the guys who went to Illinois in the mid 90's but who didn't grow up Illini fans talk about how awesome Illinois basketball was in the '80's. And the Illini fans all think that because Groce assisted in recruiting some big name guys to O$U he will do the same at Illinois. I'll believe it when I see it.

No kids from Glencoe are going to Illinois, they're going out east or west, to Michigan, to NU or U of C. Illinois is for the mid-proles out in the west burbs who got a few more ACT questions right than the future plasix salesmen and hot girls in their classes who end up going to Iowa, Indiana and Miami of Ohio.
