Zack McCabe Appreciation Thread

I appreciate that his time at Iowa is almost done. I don't appreciate that he gets more minutes than he deserves, I don't appreciate Fran drawing up a play for a guy that is shooting 25% in conference play, I don't appreciate fans using him in an attempt to feel better about themselves (I'm such a good fan, I even like McCabe!), and I don't care if he plays hard- this is a results oriented world.

Re: Zach McCabe Appreciation Thread

Soooooo when he tells us that we “Suck” and to “Go suck a fat one” it’s that he cares about the team and hes a great guy and rescues puppies from burning buildings and volunteers at your local homeless shelter? Also he need not take any responsibility for his actions. Good lesson to kids that look up to him.

Read the Hlas article & get a little perspective. Way to take it on a L curve with your examples. These are amateur players. The guy goes to class & doesn't get picked up by police. He's been a model student athlete. Correct, he shouldn't have posted the response back. Do us all a favor and go root for Drake or something. We don't need you or your caustic opinions.

OK, now just conference stats:

Player A 16.3 min....4.5 ppg.....2.7 reb
Player B 30 min......13.3 ppg.....7 reb

Also throw in the Iowa State game where player A 0 pts and 3 reb and player B had 25 pts and 17 reb. Padding your stats against UNO and Maryland Eastern Shore doesn't impress me.

The conference stats and season stats for both players are nearly identical. 2 pt difference in player A is nothing for a player with those few min/pg. Should be simple enough to see.

And picking and choosing the season high stats of one player to counter the season avg. stats of another player is apples/oranges. The player with 25/17 vs. ISU is built for run-n-gun games which ISU likes to do at home: in half-court games that player puts up average numbers/per minutes.

Hello good sir, are you aware that McCabe tweeted disparaging comments about James Vandenberg? What does the morally superior crowd think of that?

OH NOES!!! McCabe said something mean to a student athlete, heads are exploding!

They're not my stats.

I didn't say they were your stats, but when I looked up Zach's stats, I noticed that he feasted on the weaklings and that "the other guy" had stepped it up in conference and against a top OC opponent in ISU.

So since it was a twitter account was he responding to all Hawk fans everywhere that have no idea what is going on his twitter or was he responding to the morons on his twitter account?

A lot of little kids followed him, do we want them exposed to that graphic language? I think he should miss at least a game for his outburst.

Also, if you're going to go with the "proportion" like you stated with your first set of stats, the proportions don't make the players as even as the full season stats.

I would rather have them exposed to that language then that last 3 point shot - now that was graphic!!

Little kids probably shouldn't be following him on twitter.

Come to think of it, little kids shouldn't be going to ballgames because they are going to hear much worse from the "adults" in the stands. And little kids hear worse at home with dad/mom watching games on tv.

The other guy has not stepped it up in conference per your stats. The conference ppg and rpg are an increase of .4 while mpg are up 3.4.

Stop the hero act.

I'm not saying Zach and White would be the same player.

What is fact is that Zach's production and White's production is similiar per minutes played. White is considered the 2nd best player on the team while Zach is the new whipping boy since Woody dunked the ball. He shouldn't be.

1) fans tweeting abuse at players is another example of how impulsive and discourteous social media can make us.

2) zach tweeting abuse back is simply more of the above. deleting the tweet was the right thing to do, but he just learned why not to make the tweet in the first place.

3) I'm sure he's a great kid and a hard worker in practice. he also has a poor 3pt percentage in conference play and is a defensive liability. bad coaching move to have him on the floor and gesell on the bench for that play.

I am deeply sorry that you do not understand what a truly "results oriented world" would look like. It would not, I assure you, be based on your insensitive, cowardly criticism of a college basketball player for not playing as well as you would like. You would be well advised to think through what "results" you would really like to see in a world troubled by far more than college basketball players.

If you're going to make an appreciation thread for a guy, um, spell his name correctly please.

I agree he should miss at least a game. Maybe that will give him focus. He should also have his minutes cut. It would be a big step to turning this season back around. Way too many home losses.

You are not bright, but it's cute watching you try.

What bothers me most about this whole episode is the inability of so many to comprehend how negativity directed towards players harms the hawkeyes.

We can't even have one thread in support of a player without a few has-been keyboard jockeys chiming in with their criticism.

Fan venom spread all over Twitter, message boards, and the press does far more to hurt the Hawkeyes than a player having a sub par game.

No it doesn't. By that same logic, fans being positive does far more to help the Hawks than any player having a great game. It's just a stupid thing to think.
