Zach McCabe Appreciation Thread

Ok. So he shouldn't have posted his statement on Twitter. That fact that he was so upset shows he cares and cares about his team. He was frustrated. So, to those fans who think they can log on Twitter with anonymity & post crap about a 22 year old young man is pathetic. These are the same people who would not even play for their local community college team.

Look people, maybe he's not the most athletic, but he came in the Lickliter years and stuck around and worked his azz off the last four years. He could have transferred but didn't. Iowa needed bodies & he stuck it out. Much like Jared Cole. I also appreciated Cole for sticking around & battling thru his injuries. So, people going on Twitter & calling out McCabe or any young college player is quite pathetic. This is not life or death people. Teams have up-and-downs & Iowa needs to find themselves.

Ogelsby had inconsistent shooting most of his career up until now & now look at him. He's the talk of the town.

So, to those fans who find it necessary to talk shitick to McCabe when they couldn't even hold his jok strap, screw you. This team does not need fans like you and we fan's who appreciate the hard work of players like Zach McCabe don't need you on our team or supporting our Hawks. If you can't get it or understand that, then you clearly can "Go Suck a Fat One", because we don't need you!!

In all fairness I could have gone 0fer from the field and fouled out. Probably would have hit rim too.

You wouldn't even make it to the warm-up drills to be given the chance. The majority of people couldn't even play on a college team. That's my point.

^^^ Not needed.

McCabe has been in a shooting funk but he made other positive plays yesterday especially in the first half with two steals, kept a ball alive for a gesell basket that was like an assist, and got some rebounds.

But McCabe was in the game so much because Basabe was sick.

The hawks lost this game in the first half because wisky was on fire and the hawks were not focused and not shooting well.

People have to look at the whole game which is why I have brought up things like our lack of getting loose balls, and 50-50 rebounds, and even moving to get in position for rebounds.

Like you know anything about that pressure. I can tell youre a nerd who didnt play sports because no real athlete would try an act like theyve never had a bad game. Of course you think it would be easy to do what hes doing.....youve never done it.

Your the kind of coward that ZM should get to punch in the face.

Shouldn't an appreciation thread spell his name right?

in all seriousness I want my son to play hard like zach and I enjoy his style. He doesn't deserve the negativity as he has done everything he was asked to do for this program...gain weight and become a 5, lose weight to play the 4 and 3, start, come off the bench, help improve younger more talented players...you name it he did it.

Well said. He's done what he was asked & has represented the uofi well up until to this point.

I appreciate your hustle. It is intense and it really brings that extra bit of raw emotion to the floor. I appreciate that you are willing to dive in and do the dirty work. I appreciate that you hustle, wait said that already ready... I appreciate that you only have 5 fouls more than you can ever know.

So in other words he's much like you. You have negative things to say all the time about this so called team you cheer for. You have cute little posts belittling everyone on here. You have negative things to say all the time. Oh wait said that already.

You have 4,789 more posts than you will ever know

I appreciate Zach but still think that is the worst shot I have ever seen. I watched it 5 times hoping I would see the foul or block but it never came.

Zach did not lose the game for us. We gave the game to the Badgers and one noncall in the last few minutes really hurt.....

After Oglesby hit his last shot, he was slammed to the ground by one of the Badgers. There are three referees who saw the foul and did not call it. Could not have been a more obvious foul. There was about a minute left and gave us a one point lead.....

We gave a basket to Kaminsky by our center running out to the free throw line or beyond, leaving Kaminsky wide open between him and the basket, a lob pass and easy basket erased our one point lead with under a minute left.....

We turned the ball over twice and they scored both times.....

It should not have come down to a last few seconds desperation shot. As Tm said; When was the last time we won a game on a last second shot, perhaps James Moses at Indiana.....

Josh should have been the number one option, then Devyn for the last shot. They probably would have fouled either one of them to make them tie the game from the stripe, especially Josh who was red hot.....

There is no guarantee that anybody would have made a shot. The game was lost before that....

Izzo, Ryan and to a lesser degree Matta own the Big Ten referees, therefore there are a lot of noncalls or ticky tacky fouls. Simply the way it is. The other night when MSU played perhaps the best game of the year in the Big destroying Purdue, they were up at least 20 points and didn't get a ticky tack call and Izzo was out on the floor crying to the refs as he did all game. It is sickening, same with Ryan, who wasn't quite as obnoxious as he has been at Carver.....

As uihawk says Basabe not able to play really hurt defensively in the middle and also scoring under the basket, which we couldn't do.....

Also the 50/50 balls usually went to the Badgers. We were not ready for their blazing hot start.....

Wisconsin was extremely hot starting and finishing the game.....

I was proud of the Hawks coming back from behind by 11, I believe, in the second half to lead by four, and kept the lead for a while and kept getting it back in a close tense final few minutes. I think we lost the game on Kaminsky's wide open basket with about a minute left to take the lead by one.....

Badgers have the easiest schedule in the Big Ten left as far as I can see. Indiana and Purdue at home and at Penn St. and Nebraska.....

They have definitely playing like a team that will go far in the NCAA Tournament along with the Spartans.....

We probably will finish fourth in the Big and that would be remarkable all things considered and are still in third place in the Big, and we will make the Tournament, also remarkable....

Once again, Zach did not lose the game for the Hawks.....

Excellent threads, Melrose and Uihawk

Why couldn't you just keep your d0uchiness confined to just the football forums? Don't get me wrong, you are a perfect fit for the Lick years.....but those days are gone. We are an NCAA team and you just now want to start b!tching about the players??

Hawkeye "A" 27.0 mins . . 12.9 ppg . . 6.6 rpg . . 2.0 apg
Hawkeye "B" 16.3 mins . . 6.3 ppg . . 3.1 rpg . . 1.3 apg

Minute proportion determines games stats. "B" minutes go up to "A" minutes, then you basically have the same player by stats.
Guess who is who.

In all fairness, you wouldn't have been on the court.

You would be sitting left of the trainers.

In street clothes.

Hell, you didn't even get a rimshot on this joke.

I really wish the entire team would play with as much heart as McCabe (we would be great)...that being said, his minutes should be very limited and he should NEVER be in at crunch time.
