You're Brian Ferentz and Phil Parker...

What are your game plans for PSU?

If I'm Phil, I'm going to employ a lot of nickel formations with Rugamba, Jackson and OJ and eliminate the huge mismatch of Bower out on an island by himself against Barkley coming out of the backfield. Our DBs typically tackle pretty well, so I'm not as worried about Barkley on straight ahead runs....it's his ability to catch the ball out of the backfield in space that concerns me. The 2nd thing that would concern me if I'm Phil is McSorley's ability with his legs. So make sure the DL isn't as concerned with getting to him as they are in staying in their lanes and containing him. Limit man-to-man coverage in the secondary so as not to get your back turned and have McSorley take off for huge gains.

If I'm Brian, since we're at home, we can take more chances with a young QB. So I'm taking some deep shots early when I WANT to rather than when I HAVE to when they can tee off on Stanley. Also, I'm doing that on early downs so as to give him a better chance. Maybe go with our Pitt gameplan to a certain extent where we came out in shotgun nearly every play with CJ. I don't think this is a game we can hope to win 14-13 like Michigan because PSU has more ability for the big play....so this is a game where we're going to have to try to put some points up and that ain't gonna happen via stretch left and stretch right.

Ultimately I think the first team to 27 wins.

Hawks put together another Kinnick Classic under the lights against a Top 5 team and win 27-24.

Barkley is the key cog to that team.

Two spies on the L side of the field and two on the R side of field. Spies on each side will be an active LB and CB to cover the two different levels. A LB could be replaced with a Nickel defender if needed. Safeties will be the last line of defense. DEnds control the ends and keep McSorley confined.

Ok, I don't know what the hell I'm talking about. Carry on.

Frankly, it would probably work as well anything we tried last year...

Better yet, just bench Bower.

OK, here's my variation of the "6-2 STACK MONSTER!" (If you don't know...)

Go completely off the rails with a 5-1-5, adding AJE on Hesse's side and having them jump back and forth alternating at DEnd.

Leave Jewell as the lone LB, with one of the DBs "walking up".

Have ALL DBs run sprints in practice and start the five fastest ones. First one that misses/blows a tackle, yank him for the next fastest.

Yeah putting any of our LBs on Barkley in a spy kind of role in regards to the passing game is just asking for it... Looking at last yrs tape against him or even how Iowa tried defending McCaffery in the Rose bowl that just doesn't work... I sure hope they come up with a more aggressive plan that puts heat on them that hopefully takes away their first read. Easier said then done I know..

Sounds like your idea is to put about 12 or 14 guys out there. I'm for it if they can get away with it! (after last week who the hell knows what will / won't get called!)

I'm hoping that we put 12 guys out there early, and the refs get used to it so they won't see it after a while. Maybe this will work if we have last week's refs. They are more concerned about containing celebrations.

Isn't 5 DB's a dime package?

We match up better against PsU than NT. So I shut down the run, If Im Parker. Make their QB beat us.

On offense, Hide where we are going to run. Open up that pass game. Stanley is going to connect on some deep balls.

PsU is going to go home crying Saturday night.

Iowa has beaten 3 of the last 4 teams who have come into Kinnick ranked in the top 5. They beat Michigan, Michigan St., and Penn St. and lost to Ohio St.
