Yes I'm spoiled!

I'm actually fairly bright brother, I know what you are saying and what you "aren't" saying as well....I'm extrapolating things out to their logical end. If it was year three or 4 or 5 then it would be Brands fault, yet it isn't now...let that sink in for a minute?!?

The complaints by fans are just that... complaints by "fans" and rarely well thought out or even to the crux of what is really wrong. Whether it be Brands or KF or KOK or whomever...at one time KF was untouchable too...I just find the limitations people put on their thoughts or their memories of them can be quite fleeting and worth studying.

Many an Iowa fan has suggested TB always has his team ready, yet in reality he only has so much control. So it goes with everyone really, when you are relying on others to carry out your wishes. And for our part we will give him a pass until one day we don't...that's what fans do. Thank goodness we don't have people following us around at our places of business telling everyone in cyberworld, what we did wrong.....:D

Here's to hoping they get it turned around at nationals...wrestling is a strange dichotomy for me. I no longer watch it much, nor do I encourage my kids to do it...but this time of year I start watching and all the years from 2nd grade on up of wrestling come flowing back and I find myself yelling at the TV.....these other thoughts are just me being a study of mankid and how we treat those who lead our sports teams..

Ha, fixed the typo.

It's tough to say. If TB hasn't won a Big Ten title in five years, I bet his seat will be pretty hot. I don't know if that's justified, but honestly, I don't know if it isn't either. It really depends on all the other context as well. And it also depends on how the whole wrestling landscape changes as well.

I guess what I'm saying overall is that using the current football situation to interpret the wrestling situation (which I think is at least a little different) may make you take logical leaps that aren't really there.

All that said, I do see your point. However, if the Hawks can climb back to the top, we'll never know if you're right. Here's to hoping we never find out.

Nice post and I enjoy talking with someone that thinks at your level. You are of course right and I'm only pointing how small similarities and idiosyncrasies that are prevalent in fandom...they aren't exact extrapolations and also it wouldn't be fair to be highly critical of TB yet, though I often wonder if it is at all at the level we do it. That's all....

Glad I could oblige old friend....

PS...break down what I said and show me its wrong, the I'll love you.....:D

The days of Iowa dominating in wrestling are over?! The best facilities, the amazing tradition, the best crowds, and you can't dominate? Beyond that, it is freaking wrestling! A total minor sport with a handful of programs! This isn't even soccer! There are 95 D1 wrestling programs and over 200 soccer programs.

Really no excuse.

The hawks will never be down under Brands. You kmow why? Because despite all the positives last night (6 in finals, second place as a team, 8 qualified for nationals, six semifinal wins over top 10 kids) all he wanted to talk about was luke lofthouses loss. this isnt your average coach, this is an exact clone of the guy who built this dynasty. The main difference between iowa and psu is that Cael is a great recruiter but brands is a great coach.

Exactly, a lot easier to dilute the crowd with over 200 programs. The lesser the opportunities, the more the best wrestlers jam into the fewer spots.

Anything not football or basketball is considered a minor sport. I'm not here to say wrestling is better than basketball or any other sport since it's pure opinion.

I'm a die hard Hawkeye wrestling fan. I don't give a crap about the basketball and football team. If they win, okay. Some of you posters talk about the end of the Hawkeye dynasty and how Penn State and Minnesota are going to be better than the Hawks for the next 2 or 3 years. You talk about how we don't have the molinaros, taylors, and ruths anymore. Well, know one else does either. The Hawks have McDonough, Ramos, StJohn, Evans, Lofthouse, Gambrall, and Telford back next year. We recruited, Clark, Gilman, Skonieczny, Brooks, and Burak. We've got Dziewa waiting at 141 or 149. I don't care if ballweg beat Dziewa in a tournament. Minnesota loses sanders and yohn next year. They don't have a good 157# and Cody yohn is average. PennState loses Molinaro and Wade. They don't have anyone at 133 and 141. The other Alton twin will be back supposedly at 149#. I'm a realist too. Is PennState the better team right now, yes. Will they be next year? Yes. I never count the Hawks out because you just don't know what's going to happen.:p

either way we have to be happy we are in contention to win big ten and national titles can you imagine being in isu's shoes?

I love college wrestling but don't follow it as closely as some. Is Sanderson building what could become a dynasty at Penn State? He is pulling in some incredible recruits and has accomplished a lot in a short amount of time. The Hawks really seemed up and down this year ... At times, showing domination; other times not wrestline as aggressive. We have all been spoiled and now I know what the Duke's (basketball) and Oklahoma's (football) of the world think ... if they don't finish at the top the season was sort of a wash ...

As crazy as it seems you just "expect" iowa to win the national title every year in wrestling. But, it looks like the tide is changing .. especially with what's happening in Happy Valley ...

Indeed it is...PSU was a sleeping giant with all of the talent out there...Cael has awoken the kraken.

As I mentioned in another post:

At the beginning of the year, before wrestling even started, we were favorites...NOTHING was wrong with Iowa. We've been bitten by the injury bug, and by administration. These things happen. Sure PSU will now be a constant force, as will Okey State, Minny, and Iowa. It's all gonna depend on who is firing the hottest in March, and given history of coaches I give the nod to Brands. Keep in mind that PSU let Long wrestle free and clear last year when he was suspended at ISU. That lone act of selfishness won them the Big 10's and NCAA's. If Cael had any morals PSU finishes second to Cornell and we're looking at an entirely different situation. Besides It's good for the sport to have parity. How can you not love wrestling the top teams routinely every year in both duals and tournaments???? Iowa will be fine, trust me.
