It is great to see Iowa dominate wrestling. But for the sport of wrestling,is it really a good thing that any team dominate it the way Iowa has? I would think that it would help the popularity of the sport if it is not a forgone conclusion that a certain team will win everything all the time. I have never paid much attention to wrestling untill recently when my sons got involved. I really appreciate the sport much more now.

Best thing about this thread is we, "the bloggers," aren't in that wrestling room. I guarantee not one Hawkeye wrestler believes they're second best to any program. Hopefully the studs coming in and the already solid team we have next year turn this thing around and start a new dynasty for years to come. Actually pretty funny saying we need to turn this around considering we're still seeking a national title this year! Eight AA's with 2 being champs and we can still win in St Louis! Like I said I'm just spoiled being a Hawkeye WRESTLING fan

Right - because Brands has 3 championships and Cael has one. Cael was a perennial loser and Brands owned him. He's doing it now with a combo of ISU recruits and a really good core that PSU had in place. Call me when Cael has 3 and still continues to kick our butts. I doubt that happens.

This is true...all the same, per the fan its always someone's fault their favorite team falls off. Eventually it all turns back to the coach, it always does. Rightly or wrongly....and personally I'm not one to put it there, but eventually people do.

"rightly or wrongly" is the perfect way to put it. Sometimes it's not the coach's fault, but no one has more direct control over the success or failure of a program than the head coach. Sometimes the critique is fair, sometimes it's not.

I'm actually fairly bright brother, I know what you are saying and what you "aren't" saying as well....I'm extrapolating things out to their logical end. If it was year three or 4 or 5 then it would be Brands fault, yet it isn't now...let that sink in for a minute?!?
The complaints by fans are just that... complaints by "fans" and rarely well thought out or even to the crux of what is really wrong. Whether it be Brands or KF or KOK or whomever...at one time KF was untouchable too...I just find the limitations people put on their thoughts or their memories of them can be quite fleeting and worth studying.
Many an Iowa fan has suggested TB always has his team ready, yet in reality he only has so much control. So it goes with everyone really, when you are relying on others to carry out your wishes. And for our part we will give him a pass until one day we don't...that's what fans do. Thank goodness we don't have people following us around at our places of business telling everyone in cyberworld, what we did wrong.....
Here's to hoping they get it turned around at nationals...wrestling is a strange dichotomy for me. I no longer watch it much, nor do I encourage my kids to do it...but this time of year I start watching and all the years from 2nd grade on up of wrestling come flowing back and I find myself yelling at the TV.....these other thoughts are just me being a study of mankind and how we treat those who lead our sports teams..

You're trying hard to convince yourself that the wrestling board works like the football board where all the ills are blamed on the coach. We know who to blame and it's the wrestlers when it's warranted. Wrestling coaches have little to due with a match as a opposed to a football coach who calls plays, timeouts, substitutions, etc. We love Brands and we blame him for nothing on the wrestling board. Does it look like PSU, OSU, Minn, Ok St are in our way? Sure but those states also have great wrestling, they're just now starting to keep them in state.

Funny...that's not how I remember it when we had our last coach (lots and lots of critics on the Hawkeye report message board) . Or when Iowa St had Douglass for that matter... Its also not what wrestling fans say on the football board....funny that...?!?!
This is only a further example of what I'm talking about...we greatly limit our thinking to what benefits us, until of course it doesn't?
