Iowa Basketball: Yahoo Sports! puts Woodbury on top freshman to watch list - Des Moines Iowa Hawkeyes | Examiner.com

Heres whole article:

The hype could not be any bigger for incoming freshman basketball recruit Adam Woodbury.

I hope the 7-foot center from Sioux City East is ready. Because Hawkeye Nation and the rest of the basketball world is.

Woodbury was recently placed on a top freshman to watch list by Yahoo Sports! writer Mike Huguenin. Huguenin put Woodbury as No. 6 on a list of eight newcomers headed into the Big Ten this season.

Woodbury is a four-star center that will give Iowa its first true center in about 10 years. The 7-foot, 230-pounder is a four-star prospect and almots a lock to start for however many seasons he spends in Iowa City.

And the more coverage like this he gets, the more pressure gets put on him by the fans, media and anyone in the basketball world.

Huguenin says Woodbury "knows how to score in the low post" and the left-hander can "finish with either hand." He also called Woodbury "the centerpiece of a strong Iowa freshman class."

Iowa head coach Fran McCaffery and his coaching staff did a great job with this recent incoming class. Aside from Woodbury, the Hawkeyes also will welcome four-star point guard Mike Gesell and three-star forward/center Kyle Meyer, who stands 6-foot-10 and gives Iowa another strong post presence.

Very nice article, Hh, thanks, the basketball season cannot start soon enough.....

I have a feeling that Adam starts immediately and every game if health permits.....

:)

I think I'm just as excited for the upcoming basketball season as I am the football season. I can't remember the last time I have said that in the last decade.

I'm not sure if he will start immediately or not but I am very excited for this next season. He will have an impact for sure. Nice to have an actual C.

Talk is cheap. Let's wait and see how the kid handles the physicality of D1 and the BIG in particular before we crown him. Quite a bit different than High School. Not trying to be negative, simply realistic.

Ah, so it's Top 8 in the conference. I was thinking this was a national ranking or something.
Still, nice press.

Me too. Top 8 incoming freshmen in the BoneG is not that big of an honor.

Like I have been saying for months, the freshmen coming into the BoneG are going to be INSANE next year. I think there is a real chance neither Woodbury or Gessell make the all-freshman team.

Glad I'm not the only one thinking this way. If one of our supposed "top" recruits can't crack this list, you gotta wonder. Either the writer of that article is a moron. Or, all the hype outweighs reality. All I know is I'm sick of the hype. D1 / BIG is a totally different animal vs High School. Let's evaluate the kids after they've had a chance to get their feet wet and we're 1/2 way into Conference play.

I think our recruits are very good and will serve our team well. However, because this class is so much better than our past classes, I think some of our fans got too excited because they are comparing this class to our past classes, not other classes this year.

Yeah, we have a top 25 class, but it is still #5 in conference. We are going to improve, but several teams in the league are going to improve as well. MSU, IU, and UM will all probably start in the top 15.

My thoughts exactly.

I wish humans had 4 fingers so all of Adam's fingers could be filled with national championship rings.

**** you thumbs.

Gessel makes a bigger impact next year than Woodbury. A true point guard who can score...and run the show. He's ready too...most freshmen point guards struggle with handling the ball with the upgrade in athleticism at the next level. Gessel can handle it. I can't wait to see the fast break next year...Marble, White, and Basabe on the run with Gessel feeding the big dogs.

You have to stop the other team from scoring to get a fast break.

Agree that Gessel probably makes a bigger impact than Woodbury, but Basabe on the run? Really? ok.....

I know these All Star games aren't made for players like Woodbury but that's all I've seen of him and he just doesn't look like a Big 10 caliber player right now. I think at his very best he is Jared Reiner as a freshmen

Can't wait to see him against guys like Payne (MSU) and Zeller (Indiana). We'll see exactly what we have after those match-ups. My gut tells me Payne will eat him alive and Zeller is just to athletic. I truly hope I am wrong.

I think we'll know more about what we truly have after those matchups than we learned from that All Star game.
