Ive said before that if you were to make up a list of overrated division one coaches that Shaka Smart would be near the top of the list.

But Stevie hairgel isn't too far down the ladder.

That shoplifting incident in China screwed up his depth not only for last year but probably this one too. But the way some of these coaches react when they know they're on the hot seat he will probably pull a final four run out of his behind and parlay that into a nice extension. Or threaten to coach the Lakers, Clippers or Suns.

Yeah Smart was a guy I thought would have done better. I thought he did a great job at VCU. But at Texas he's had some good talent and underachieved with it so far.
 
I hate to defend Smart too much because he has underachieved. However, he made the final four from the play in game at VCU. At Texas, he's had some bad luck - Andrew Jones last year getting cancer for example. You'd still expect more results, but I do think they'll do better next year with a Big 12 I think will be pretty down outside of KU.

Texas is also the only school that appeared on all 4 FBI lists when they were released last year. Gotta give the guy credit for being the best cheater of all the cheaters out there...or the worst at hiding his cheating. Cheating like that should come with more success that that.

If the NCAA does anything with what the FBI uncovered, USC will be in huge trouble. However, they'll probably just lose 1/4 of a basketball cheerleading scholarship or something similar.

short of winning the national championship, a serious UK offer may be too much.

look, we were never going to get carton. he went from 0 to 100 way too fast. personally, i think he's overrated as a 5*, but he was just a "good" prospect until recently and then jumped. let's see what his SR season provides. i've got a friend who has a nephew that played for Assumption, so my friend has seen Bett and Muscatine over the past 2 or 3 years. JW was a man amongst boys but he wouldn't come close to putting DJ in that class.

Domino #1 is all that matters.... To me that has to happen. I think we could still land Foster so long as Carton is on board regardless of the record next yr. The new guys (Patrick, Wieskamp and Carton) would have confidence in themselves of turning things around I would bet. But so much is riding on Carton it's almost not funny in regards to where this program is going

i really believe carton was never seriously considering iowa. IU and UM. Now it's IU, UM and OSU. my pick is UM.

Yeah DJs stats wouldn't blow anyone away from the last year. But it's easy to see the talent.. He's got size quickness handle and hops. He might try and go nuts and play selfish this year and prop up his stats but I hope he doesn't. He's a great prospect and obviously others think the same and he doesn't need to change his style out there. Wieskamp because of his size along with his everything else he's got going for him was most certainly a man amongst boys out there... How his game will translate to D1 will be interesting to see. If he can be anything close to a Matt Gatens or Luke Recker type of player I'd take that in a heart beat.

Your guess is as good as anyone elses. I haven't felt great about our odds for awhile... But till he takes us off or makes a pick hope is all I got..

yeah, don't get me wrong. I'm not saying carton doesn't have talent. he obviously does. I am saying I am not certain it is 5* talent. 5* talent is typically going to be fairly obvious, in my opinion.
 
Gotta win boys, and win all the time. Can't have would'ves and could'ves. The big boys come calling, Fran starts stalling, and we get no balling

I mean it wasn’t all that long ago that UW was the first P5 to offer Carton and then Iowa followed. Those others schools may be favorites but they weren’t exactly first to the party. Point being when he only had Iowa and UW offers (which wasn’t for long) he was probably strongly considering both schools. I don’t think anyone could have predicted he would blow up the way he has.
