WTF BTN and FS1 Analysts!!?

When you continue to play nobody and refuse to even leave the state in the month of September, and have the son of the coach running the offense (a former center no less), this is how the world views you. You can choose to keep making excuses, yell louder or mumble something about never being able to find anyone any better or you can demand change or at least demand an intersectional away game like most programs that have top 15 budgets and facilities. You can’t have the aw shucks but then turn around and bitch when the National media pokes holes in our balloon when we beat a middling mac team in the 4th quarter at home.

Isn’t Matt Campbell’s specialty o-line play?

How many teams have had an undefeated regular season in the last 5 years?
I'll wait.
10 years?
I don't give a shit what anyone says about our coaches or program. But boring is not accurate. If winning games is boring, well kiss my ass, I'll take boring all day everyday.

Most of today's "journalists" just repeat what they've heard other "journalists" say. So yeah...narratives get beat to death and often held on to too long. Your best bet are independent, local writers if you want updated info and real journalism.
We're still relatively vanilla...but it's lazy to just repeat that same crap from 2008, because there are significant differences.

Unfortunately, once the narrative is built it’s hard to change it.

In my opinion Iowa’s offense was far from “archaic” on Saturday.

-ISM motions across the formation for a big gainer in the flats.

-ISM takes a jet sweep handoff for big gain.

-Iowa shows a read option look and Stanley pulls the ball for a big gain.

-Shotgun sets with two RBs flanking the QB.

-The route combination on Ragaini big gainer was high level. I think ISM running one defender off and Nico running a great route.

-Four goaline fades, one of the more exciting plays in football.

-On the FG drive Iowa ran an NFL rub play to try and get Beyer in the flats. Kid made a heck of a play and tackle.

Iowa’s offense showed a few wrinkles and that was just game 1. This is not exactly the Iowa offense of old, which I would agree was archaic at times.

I think the biggest change was that they didn't audible to the stretch to the short side of the field whenever Miami had 10 guys in the box, which they did A LOT.

Do we get the same FS1 announcers in Ames. I thought I heard one of them say they have never been to Ames. The other mentioned you're in for a treat. Really?? Ames, Iowa? Was I hammered?? I didn't think was

Oh and you will probably never hear Urban (arguably one of the best college coaches ever) say we play boring. :)

We was actually the only really complimentary analyst and actually watched and commented what Iowa did "in the 2nd half". So, he actually watched it. He commented on how tough Iowa is and said a couple times "I've lived it".

I noticed that as well. They didn't audible a lot on Saturday but went with the called play. They were willing to try to exploit blitzes instead of run from them. Stanley actually took the pressure and completed passes against the blitz.

I like that teams won't be able to force Iowa into an audible and down to a few plays to defend. Iowa may not always be successful against the blitz but at least they can keep the defense guessing a bit on what they are going to do. In the past, when Iowa checked out of a play, it extensively narrowed down the possibilities of plays they would run, many times a running play that was defended. Not anymore.

You heard that right. I heard the same.

That was his way of saying, if they execute perfectly, you can't stop it and you can't play catch up after it gets rolling, either. When Iowa is running the ball for five yards per and throwing for 8+ per and not turning the ball over, it's just demoralizing. They string together drives that just eat clock and wear out your D. They just lean on you.

I think that shows real growth by: O'Keefe, Stanley, and Brian Ferentz. It's nice to see.

What? You mean you are asking people to do a little bit of homework?:)

Iowa is well respected by top college and NFL coaches.
I think that speaks pretty loud.

The other word you'll hear is "tempo". Not tempo in the sense that we run no huddle, quick snap offense....but our tempo is harder and more tenacious than most college teams. Even Wisconsin says that one of the most difficult things for them during Iowa week is getting their scout team to play at the tempo that Iowa plays at. When it's rolling, it just tears the shit out of teams. Even go back to Nebby's former DC who said after we kicked the shit out of them again that, "Their practices must be blood baths!".

Both Glenn Mason and Urban Meyer had Wisconsin running away with the West.

Then Iowa played the second half.

And both Mason and Meyer said, “Hold up. There’s going to be a race for the west.”

So apparently it’s not only fans that overreact to week one games.

Overreaction to Week 1 of college football is a national pastime....as American as baseball and apple pie.

You do know we play 4 road games this year against teams ranked in the pre-season top 25? That's more than Alabama and Clemson combined.

Try again.

I did see some audibles and checks but it wasn't the same old same old. I will have to re-watch to pick up specifics but I did see Stanley reading the D and making corrections. That is one thing I do like about Iowa Football is they allow the QB to read the D and I think it shows when the last few QBs in our system have been on NFL rosters. I am hoping they give Stanley some more flexibility in what he is checking into. I think in the past it has been one maybe two choices based off the numbers in the box which teams have used against us.

I don't know about you but I cannot stand to watch the teams that have the QB back in shotgun clapping his hands and then turning to look at the sidelines for the call.
