Kirk is calculatingly emotional. So, it's rare that I read anything into it.

I won't lie and say that I didn't note how a big deal the FS1 coverage made out of Woods and Stephens. To be fair, Woods' boys were hugely responsible for that win and two of his guys eclipsed not insignificant Iowa records.

Further an easily dismissed notion in that if ANYONE on the TV production crew had any kind of information or even an inkling about the winningest Big 10 coach in history retiring after 25+ years and being replaced by a fan fav....
The chatter prior to and after the game on the internet, sports radio, etc. would have been.....not insignificant and bordering on deafening.
"Calculatingly"? You're suggesting those chokeups aren't spontaneous, and he's been doing it strategically?

Please.

If what is happening is as Fry is reporting, there is no way this does not get back to KF. It would already be in KF's knowledge. I mean, if some nobody like Fry is reporting this on a message board, you don't think that KF's agent or others in his orbit would not tell him about it? And whatever details Fry knows, I am confident KF knows more. This type of thing involves too many people and is already out. IF IT IS TRUE.

So how does this work? KF goes about his business, Beth strikes out going after this whale. Then what? "Kirk, we'd love for you to coach our team again next year." "Um, go F yourself."

This is not the way the real world works. If Beth and Fry's dark mystery boosters are actively pursuing a replacement for KF, then KF is already done for next year. He is not some 36 year old interim coach that finished off the season well and can be kept on the hook like this. He is a legend. There is no dipping your toe into the water for replacing a KF. You either pull the trigger like you did with Fran, or you bring him back.

If they are shopping for a new coach, KF knows that and has already been told he is done or has already told Beth he is done. So, if any part of Fry's rumor is true, KF is, in fact, done.

Here's my take. With Kirk's age and how he is so emotional after the recent games, what I feel is going on is that he may have mentioned to Beth he is interested in retiring and in doing so may have triggered Beth or the act of pursuing/reaching out to a highly regarded coach. This only makes sense as he seems to be getting more emotional as the season winds down. I don't think Beth, the boosters or others are doing anything behind Kirk's back or are pushing him out. It just doesn't make sense. I truly feel Kirk is involved in the transition, whenever that will be.

TBO, he doesn't even excite me at Iowa. Seriously, what has he really done after leaving Wisky. Pretty mediocre if you ask me.
Yeah, not really sure what he did, but there seems to be some friction almost between Bert and Iowa. His personality seemed have some arrogance and almost disdain toward Iowa. Maybe that's just his personality, but I don't see him as a good fit honestly. Yet, from what I am hearing, he has a pretty solid recruiting class coming in. Granted that can change as quickly as the wind changes direction in the current college football landscape.

Incoming freshman classes don't mean what they used to, and they won't replace starters. I agree that KF is leaving Iowa football much stronger than when he took over. The cupboard was bare in 1999. The program is very strong today. That said, if this is an outside hire, which it sounds like it is, he will bring his own coaches, system, and culture. There will be roster upheaval. But, as we have seen with MBB, you can rebuild and replace quickly if you are good and well-funded. It is shaping up to be an eventful offseason.
This is why they may be reaching for a home run hire in there eyes to help with recruit retainment, if they get the right guy in a timely manner, they may be able to make the calls to retain some of these recruits, especially if able sell stability that would be maintained. To be honest, with the portal, it's not as big of a deal as was 5 yrs ago. See Cignetti. A team should expect some attrition, but a stud coach may be able to bring in high recruits as well so it could be a wash.

False.

First, Goetz isn’t going to do anything without donor support and approval. Period. If you think she’s the power behind this then I don’t know what to tell you.

And if the major donor base wants KF out because they found someone else, it’s going to happen.

What’s different about Goetz vs Barta is she is much more popular with those major donors than Barta. Not even in the same solar system.

They have a person in mind and they’re pursuing it, and if this person and the athletic department agree on things, KF is out whether he chooses to retire or gets “asked.” I’ll give you a pass for refusing to believe that KF would ever be nudged out because I thought the same thing prior to now.

The people I heard this information from are involved in it. I’m also not the only one who knows about it, not by a long shot. There’s even been talk about it on the On3 boss that used to be HawkeyeReport. That site has lots of people way more in the know than me.

Again, believe it or don’t. We’re going around in circles here. If you think I’m full of it no skin off my back at all.

What are they saying about it on the On3 board? Do you think it is just folks speculating after you started dropping the crumbs around here?
