WR Emmanuel Ogwo

Interesting information as follows:

Iowa was the first school to offer Ogwo a scholarship. Ferentz did so even though Ogwo didn’t play football as a junior last fall.

Ogwo instead chose to focus on track, where he is a standout sprinter. Ogwo finished fifth in the 400-meter race at the Texas High School Track Meet in May with a time of 47.51 seconds. He rejoined his high school football team for spring practice in May. That’s when Ogwo started to impress college coaches, including Iowa receiver’s coach Bobby Kennedy.

Nice! Can always use speed up here in Iowa! Might not work out, but it's always worth the shot. Welcome aboard Ogwo!

Another 2 star project with a handful of offers from scrub teams. Yay.
HR, I get your point. On the surface, that is how this would appear. But, go take a look at some of his Hudl highlights. There is one from this past spring, so it is recent. It is mostly scrimmage stuff but, in my opinion, it gives good insight. This kid is a pure hands catcher, looks like he gets in and out of his breaks very cleanly, has some shimmy and shake with those moves and flashes speed. I think the kid has talent. But, of course, I'm an amateur so I could be way off. We'll find out if he blows up this season with offers, or not.

Smells like a Powell clone but with 4-5 yrs to mold him.... Can't teach what he has as they say. Wish he was alittle bigger but Desean Jackson isn't very big to this day. If you can run, catch, and learn to play the position then so long as he's big enough he'll be plenty good.

The biggest complaint about the Iowa Football program is speed. Here is a guy that is a track star with great speed. Why poop poo the idea just based on his star ranking?

Exactly right. We need more speed and let's hope this kid can help with that. Spreading the field vertically will also help the running game.

We could definitely use some more speed at the WR position so this appears to be a good pickup. How big is he?

Found a couple track stats for him and some comparison to high school numbers for random Hawkeyes past.

Ogwo
100M: 10.85
200M: 22.19
400M: 47.62

Paul Chaney
100M: 10.52
200M: 21.25

Jordan Cotton
100M: 11.10 (as Junior)
400M: 50.41 (as Junior)

Damond Powell
100M: 11.63 (as a sophomore)
200M: 23.40

I realize track speed isn't everything, but I thought it relevant to put those times into context.

He looks tiny. I just hope he has better hands than Chaney. If he ends up like Powell I'd be ok with that. Basically a passing down specialist due to his size and not being able to block presumably.

Thanks for the stats. Probably puts him in the range of a 4.4 or 4.5 40 yard dash. I'm sure Powell's numbers above are quicker now.

Lets hope that the only thing this guy and Chaney have in common is long speed. Chaney was a track guy who got to dress up like a football player on the weekend during his college years.
