woodbury

Big Men that aren't absolute freaks (Anthony Davis) take a long time to develop. He is coming along nicely, big part of our defense.

Wow, someone gets it. Woodbury is playing well this year, he is a victim of the officiating inconsistencies that remain. The new emphasis calls are gone and Adam needs to just paste guys in the lane, as long as they don't hit the floor it isn't a foul. Trying to play straight up positional defense allows the offensive player to initiate contact and gain the advantage (which, ironically, is the definition of a foul) and get free throws.

I hope he stays out of early foul trouble tomorrow. We could really benefit from him having a good game. The more he is on the floor the more experience he gains.

Sorry, but Woody is no AC yet,he's a slow plodding player that plays like a 6'3" guy with no hops.

i have never seen a 7 footer in NCAA have fewer dunks per minute played in my 40 years watching ball.

He is a crappy finisher, but sure seems like a good kid and I wish him well.

Per Widipedia - Earl graduated as the 1992 Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year, and upon graduation held the Iowa career record with 358 blocked shots, and was second in total points scored with 1779...

Earl did NOT play awful defense. Both he and Woodbury are good defensive players. Acie not only blocked shots but did it with touch...kept them in bounds. Woodbury is better with his feet, positioning, etc. It isn't necessary to tear Earl down to build Woodbury up. They are completely different players.

Earl was out of defensive position about 80% of the time but made up for it by being able to block shots. He was very good at blocking shots, but again... blocking a shot is your last resort. As tm3308 said "Great perimeter defenders make life with the ball in your hands miserable, and make life without the ball in your hands even worse." It is not just perimeter defenders. Post defenders do NOT let you set up on the block, they make it extremely difficult for you to cross the lane and they NEVER get pinned behind for an easy entry pass. I'm not saying I was a good defender, but I know what a good defender does. Acie Earl was not a good defender, just a good shot blocker.

Nobody on here ever talks bad about woody......... another solid game for the big man. Congrats to the team today
