Woodbury Video

I love it, the clowns are nervous about this kid already. I am waiting for the island of misfit toys to start imploding over in Ames. They couldnt get HB to stay home and Fran kept Adam from going to NC and building somthing the right way in state!

Did anyone else notice, in both videos, how much he was getting fouled and still scoring or passing to a teammate? Being able to finish with either hand, in traffic and while being abused in the lane is much more impressive than being 7'1 and dunking once in a while.

And to be honest, especially in the second video, he doesn't have that much smaller of a build than most of the guys he's playing against. He's by no means built like Sullinger, but he's a far cry from Erik Hansen.

Couldnt have drawn a better picture

It looked like he was playing the same type of game in both videos. Love to see that. The fact that he is getting the same kind of shots against Iowa high school competition and the top AAU competition is a very good sign.

That second video is impressive. Shows very nice hands. He also has refined post footwork and touch. His issue is going to be getting position. He's going to get pushed on the block quite a bit as a freshman. It will be nice to a true pivot player. Basabe kind of fulfills that role, but his footwork is poor.

Take a look at Meyers Leonard's stat line for his first two years at Illinois, with year two in progress:

Meyers Leonard Stats, News, Videos, Highlights, Pictures, Bio - Illinois Fighting Illini - ESPN

For most 7-footers, it takes some time..I think it will take some time for Woodbury to emerge.

Leonard is much better this year, but Illinois also had two pretty decent big guys in Mike Tisdale and Bill Cole last year, taking a lot of minutes. Iowa has no one like that standing in Woodbury's way.

I would wager Woodbury's minutes next year are closer to 10 per game than they are 20 per game

Interesting comment. That is who he is, I guess. Very good point.

I agree w/ his footwork being a strong point. Serious IA b-ball knowledge on these boards! (That's Now-ledge for the Nebraska fans lurking)

Pretty lame video

Can never tell much from these things but after the 7th pass shown I turned it off

I would gladly take that bet.

Done ;) Forum pride is the wager. I will leave you to bookmark this, and set a reminder to revisit it this time next year.

With White, McCabe and Basabe sure to get at least 25 minutes each, plus what growth we may see from Olaseni, and another big man frosh in Meyer, not going to be an enormous amount of minutes unless Woodbury comes in and is just a beast.

Jon, why are you so sure Basabe is going to get 25 mins next year? He's barely getting 20 this year and that's with no real alternatives to replace him. I think he will be closer to 10 mins a game next year.

Basabe is having an off season but we are talking about a player who nearly averaged a double double in BigTen play last year. Sophomore slumps happen. I think Basabe needs another strong post player like Jarryd Cole to flourish. I think Woodbury and Basabe will be a lineup we see often next year when we want to pound the ball down low. Then we can counterpunch with McCabe and White to spread the defense. It will also depend on the game. I expect Woodbury to get a lot of minutes against Indiana as no one one our current team seems capable of stopping Zeller.

My guess is that all of these players average around 20 mins per game. White maybe a few more and Woodbury a few less. All our bigs should be well rested. My analysis could be off if White gets minutes at the 3. I haven't seen him play at that position this year so I assume coach thinks he's better as a 4. However, it is possible that he can play the 3 but just doesn't this year because of depth issues at the 4 and 5.

I wonder if Woodbury has played against Zeller on the AAU circuit. I know he played in a tournament in Indiana early last Summer. The Iowa team did very well, might have won the tournament. One of the Indiana teams had a few Hoosier recruits on it. That is when Adam started to get serious attention. Don't know if Zeller played against him.....
