Woodbury in the past has been the subject of unnecessary criticism on HN IMO. I think in recent games we've seen improvement from him and a flash of what may be to come. He's been stronger with the ball on offense near the hoop as of late, he's confidently taken his shot when it's there. I'm still saying he is going to be a force to reckon with for us. Takes a little longer for big men.

Iowa has two post players that are more athletic than any other post players in the B1G. They should be used a whole lot more. And, right now, there really isn't a good alternative in the post for Iowa.

By the time he's a senior in think the offense runs through him and he will command double teams. Hopefully jok and ellingson can provide some outside shooting to make them pay.

Yeah I think of Jordan eglsetter (spelling) the 7 footer out of bell view that played at uni. He had a dominating senior year and i think woody has more potential than him. I look for big things from him. Even if he has just one year where he is a our go to guy, theres nothing really wrong with that. Marble got really hot last year in the nit and is now is a force in the big, but he hasn't really been a force other than this year. Woody still has two years to make that happen

Are his arms going to grow before he's a senior? Or will he still look like a baby t-rex out there ;-)

All kidding aside, nice to see him throw it down at Illinois - he needs to play with a chip on his shoulder a bit more!

I agree with you. This has been pointed out many times, but thanks for reiterating it.

It won't hurt Woody one bit for him to sit and watch Olaseni do his thing.. Fact is this Iowa team is better suited and is just flat out better with Gabe in the lineup. Woody 's time will come.

The people who criticize Woodbury are the same people who expected something they weren't going to get in the first place.

You have to be able to watch the game away from the ball to appreciate how well Woodbury is playing. The screens he sets, the defense he plays while does not show up as sexy statistics plays a big part in how successful Iowa is on the court. I mentioned this in another thread but that awesome ally-oop in the first half to White was set up by Woodbury screening the guy that was defending White.

I think Iowa is real fortunate to have both Olaseni and Woodbury at the center position.

Please provide the "facts" that support your claim.

K Thanks.

Not really. Gabe has flashes of greatness but then he screws up multiple defensive possessions in a row where he misses a pick and roll or help assignment or he tries to force a play that isn't there because of his athleticism. People see Gabe's ceiling, which is pretty high and think that he's awesome but then ignore his mistakes and his floor.

Our zone defense seems to scramble a little less when Woody's on the floor as opposed to Gabe.

I think its better for Gabe to come off the bench. Gives him a bit of time to settle down. Im fine with him getting more minutes than Woody on some nights but Woody should still start.

Woody does sit and watch Gabe do his thing, and he's usually the 1st guy to slap him on the back when he comes off....

Too bad Iowa doesn't get to play NW and Illini every game. Nice dunk big fella!

You're not the player most Hawkeye fans assumed a 7 foot, 4-star recruit that UNC was offering would have been.

Just keep doing the best you can.
Go Hawks!

Hehe, you're dumb.

Put them both in there, why the hell not

this is something i've toyed with in my head. kind of scary since they're our 2 true 5 players. but if you go zone with woody in the middle and allow gabe to use some of his athleticism to get out on the wing a little bit more. as soon as one gets a foul, you pull that player for a more traditional lineup.

offensively in that set i almost think you need oglesby out there for a kickout opportunity as i'd assume the offense would go through the post players.

not sure it would all work but its fun to consider
