Here are Gabe and Woody's combined stats.
32.2 minutes
12.3 points
9.4 rebounds
50.0 FG% (both have made 46 FGs)
71.4 FT%
It won't hurt Woody one bit for him to sit and watch Olaseni do his thing.. Fact is this Iowa team is better suited and is just flat out better with Gabe in the lineup. Woody 's time will come.
Woody is playing very well right now...so is Gabe. Fran said that Gabe prefers coming off the bench, which works well for our team. Our centers will have their work cut out for them in coming games:
1. Willams of OSU is a solid big man.
2. Morgan/Horford are good.
3. Hammons is the best 7fter in the league.
4. Vonleh of IU is a top ten pick next spring, and the best big man in the league, imo.
5. Jack/Dickerson are a good duo for PSU...Jack can shoot it from the arc, and Dickerson is a true 7fter.
6. Minny's big men duo of Elliason and Walker are huge, and playing well.
7.. Payne will return by the time Iowa goes to MSU.
No gimmes in this league, and Woody/Gabe must be ready!
I think by the time he is a junior the offense will run through Woodbury, Olesani, and White. They will have other guys that can score too, but they should be pretty powerfull on the inside.
You have to be able to watch the game away from the ball to appreciate how well Woodbury is playing. The screens he sets, the defense he plays while does not show up as sexy statistics plays a big part in how successful Iowa is on the court. I mentioned this in another thread but that awesome ally-oop in the first half to White was set up by Woodbury screening the guy that was defending White.
I think Iowa is real fortunate to have both Olaseni and Woodbury at the center position.
The plus/minus stat in non conference is pretty much even between the two. But in conference the plus/minus stat favors woody by a decent amount.
woody - all games is +7, conference is +4.4
olaseni - all games is +7.3, conference is 0
so that stat actually disagrees with your assessment as it says that as a team we outs core our opponent on average more when woody is in the game.
there is a FACT for you.
Yeah, way to many basketball novices who dont understsnad what Adam brings on the defensive end and dont notice how often Gabe is messing up on defense.
Is that good?
That isn't really surprising tho considering Woody spends more time with the starters.
Fran played Gabe 26 minutes and Woody 14 minutes. That could easily explain the disparity of stats in the Illinois game. Not hard, See Illinois Game. K thanks.
...
Gabe has shot 75 in comparison to Adam's 47 free throw attempts but I was surprised to see Gabe is shooting 71% and Adam is shooting 72%.
I expected Gabe to have a much higher % than woody.

Big question is: why did Fran do so?
I think that is an easy question to answer, Fran stayed with the hot hand/lineup.
Spoken from perspective of little man syndrome?Once woody gets up to 6.6 boards per game he'll be ranked 250th nationally. Only needs to add about 3 per game!!
Wait . . . are these the same people that were dividing up minutes and then saying that Fran should stay with the hot hand in the 2nd half? . . .Careful Kelley...only supposed to talk about poor use of timeouts and Olaseni being our best center when discussing the Illinois game. This hot hand thing makes a little too much sense.
