With losing Oglesby to injury, does this cost Iowa any early games?

Not like he is reliable/consistant in the flow of the game or in the clutch, but does this really impact the team at all? He is a better defender than Jok though.

With or without him, this team will lose to a team they aren't supposed to early. Bad shooting teams will run into an inferior team who brings it, shoots well, and pulls an upset. It could be tomorrow night with a 5th yr sr pg and 4 returning starters. We looked real real bad against auggie. Hope I'm wrong. I see us as a .500 big ten team so no bad losses is a must.

I think Iowa will lose to a bad team regardless. This just makes it more likely now. Let us not forget Iowa lost to Campbell - CAMPBELL!!!! Then to Nebraska last season. They MUST avoid those but this is Iowa and they always lose a few of these every year. It's become expected. Iowa is too poor of a shooting team without any difference makers to avoid them.

I actually have voiced my opinion that I thought his shooting would be improved this year. But that is pure judgement and just going off his numbers from last year, the answer is no. His 20% (I don't remember the exact %) three point shooting won't be missed. Looking at who will replace his minutes, mike g's time will probably be devoted to the 2 spot and Clemmons can handle the back up pg minutes and of course jok will play some 2 as well.

I really struggle to understand how a long, athletic jok can be such a downgrade defensively from ogles he who's D I think is overrated by some anyways. They typicall play zone when he's in the game so he doesn't have to match up which is what I imagine what they'll do with jok.

Jonnyguido: Shut up.
HawkeyeRyno: Shut up.
ibahawkeye: Jok isn't athletic, Josh is quicker, plus Josh puts the effort in to play defense.

Dang, that loss to Campbell was 2 years ago.

who? was he even going to play this year? seriously, he's like 12th on the list of important players

How early are you talking about, like pre Battle for Atlantis early or just non-conf early? Either way, care to wager on that?

For those who know BB Josh shot might not be falling but he's a good defender, passer and doesn't make mistakes or turn the ball over. What I saw of Jok in the Exhibition was someone who is a big liability on defense. Jok shot needs to be falling at a very high rate for him to see the court to off set his poor defensive play.

Some folks are forgetting Jeff Horner shot .277 or so one year or that three of Brody Boyd's four years were even or worse than what Josh shot as a freshman. Iowa needs him and will need him.

Others forget that Horner was a PG and not a 3 point specialist.

I think we could be in trouble in any game where Marble or Mike gets in early foul trouble. We don't know for sure how Mike and Sapp will be coming back from injury. Our guard court needs Josh.

Others still forget that Horner ended up being a pretty good 3-point shooter. Is Oglesby going to be a 50% shooter? Probably not. But I'd happily take 35-40% from him.

Mike is coming back from a broken hand, not a torn ACL.. He will be fine.

If Marble or MG get in foul trouble, we will be in trouble, regardless of JO's injury.

I get your inference but disagree with your reasoning. JO could provide a serviceable player to fill-in for them for a couple minutes, and he allegedly has potential to contribute on offense, but in no way shape or form is JO going to replace Roy-Dev or Mike, or even Sapp, in the back-court.

As someone mentioned (above or in the original thread), this injury is low-impact -- somewhere 9th - 11th in significance -- and will have absolutely zero impact on W's / L's.

He's talking about the "stress reaction" in his foot at the end of last season. I agree, he should be fine but since this was a lingering injury from simply playing a lot, hopefully it's fully healed and won't flare up again.

THAT would be an injury that could possibly cost Iowa some games.
