Win or Lose...Coaching Staff deserves all of the criticism that comes their way

Everyone who is complaining after a win against a team we continually struggle with every year needs to GTFO! It isn't like the hawks are getting embarrassed every week like the Cyclones. It is tough to win games against competition that is so familiar with one another. Neither team would have shut down the deep ball if it wasn't as windy as it was. You have to adjust the game plan to what the weather permits. Quit crying after a win and enjoy the Nebraska loss.

Tell that to Hayden Fry's team against Northwestern (for the most part). :)

Hawk fans are grateful for the win, but are beyond tired of the same ole crap that leads to inexplicable losses or way to close wins for comfort over inferior or in this case wounded competition. Reality is Iowa dominated half of this game and OT, but wounded Northwestern really gave us this game in regulation due to a certain lack of imagination coming from you know where. And, the cats kept hanging in, hanging in, and punching us in the mouth. Be thankful for their turnovers or we lose.

Obviously it was more entertaining to see Hayden put teams away and punish them with trick plays but in all fairness, the conservative game plan worked to get the W. NW had 5 penalties which stopped drives as well. The bend / don't break mentality worked today because NW beat themselves.

Withh tat said, the blessing in disguise was the false start penalty in OT.

We have lead in some way shape or form in every game at the half of every game. We also were outscored 52-7 in the second half. Closing out games has been an issue. I was more frustrated with the NIU game than the OSU or MSU games. I expected OSU to come back....even MSU to bull their necks. What I saw today was the same struggle, BUT we finally closed out a game. It stopped a two game losing streak and potentially was a learning opportunity to teach the team how to close out a game. Coach's can have good game plans but execution is a must. We need to execute. We have KF's system. We know this. It's not going to change to some Oregon or Baylor style of play.

I don't understand why some people think this is what the malcontents are calling for. Ferentz doesn't have to change his general philosophy.

Running play action and going over the top after setting up the run is a central component of the pro-style offense. Hell, KOK did it all the time. We don't have to try and run through a brick wall (with no success) for 2 1/2 quarters to fit within Ferentz's general vision for what our offense should be.

People don't demand to turn ourselves into the Oregon of the Midwest. We just want the coaches to actually engage in the chess game and work to counter the other team when they make adjustments.

Iowa ran play action a bunch of times in the second half. They just didn't do anything with it.
