Williams chooses New Mexico over Iowa

Transfers seem to ride the what is hot right now kind of wave. I think though last year's season was a success it left a bad basketball taste in eveyones mouth. I think transfer recruits are going on off that. The what's hot now does not seem to have same magnitiude of pull with HS kids.

Doesn't bother me too much. I like the 2015 recruits that Iowa is in on more than Williams.

He could of given Iowa a little more experience than an incoming freshman, but there are a lot of good players Iowa is on.

Transfers don't have time to rebuild a program. Still, the more I think about it, the less this guy was a fit for Iowa. We don't need a guy on the block, we need a stretch four who can run. Plus, the fact that he's transferring is a character red flag.

Iowa has signed a total of 3 white guys from out of state including Fleming. I really don't think the black/white thing has a big impact.

Hey, we can get plenty of white players from in state, that is reflected on our roster. We need athletes, and since there are few black players in Iowa (Jok and Pemsl) we need out of state top black recruits to balance this out. Somehow Hoiberg seems to have no problem going out of state for his guys...and he lands them.

Uthoff and Dickerson disagree. Also,i liked the fact that was a back to the basket player that played good defense. Along with playing the 4,he also could of backed up Woodbury.

IMO the race thing is the biggest factor. Not a lot of black athletes, especially ones form more urban areas, are going to want to play with a bunch of goofy-*** white kids like woodbury, gessel, uthoff, etc. They can relate better to the black players at other schools, and IMO that is a big reason why Iowa keeps missing out.

I don't know if they are goofy but the ethnic/cultural make up of this team is very likely playing a factor.

Does Fran's recruitment of Williams (and Atwood, etc) tell you anything about Fran's future plans or needs?

I'd guess, Fran thinks Iowa needs more rebounding and defense.

I think you are greatly overstating it. Are Clemmons, olaseni, not enough? Do you expect Iowa State to struggle to recruit white guys ?
