Will Proctor And Nwankpa Be Here Next Year?

DeJean I'm not worried about. He's a lifetime Hawk fan and so is his family.

But after getting embarrassingly clobbered by OSU and likely losing 3 more after that to go to 5-7 and missing a bowl, along with legal free agency and NIL money, I have to think both those guys bolt. I don't want them to, but I'm struggling to see what makes them stay.

Is Proctor going to want to play with the worst OL in the conference and one of the worst in P5 next year with everyone coming back? For a team that's in national turmoil over how terrible they are?

Things were a WHOLE lot different perception-wise when these guys signed. And there are a bunch of schools with boosters who'll pay each of them handsomely to jump ship.

Proctor isn't a Hawk till I see him wearing the Tiger Hawk running out of the tunnel... Totally agree that he'll be reassessing everything between his HS season getting over having to come in.

As far as XN goes I could see him staying. He's currently here. He's in line to start next yr. So long as Parker is still DC and his position coach I think he's good. Then again that could be wishful thinking on my part.

Some player parents we talked to at the Marriott whose son was close to Charlie Jones said he turned down $650K from boosters at nebraska and got seven figures total from Purdue donors and NIL stuff.

And it worked out great for him. 2nd in the B1G in receiveing yards, 7 touchdowns, and three 100+ games halfway through the season. That will get him NFL chances regardless of how much Purdue sucks and he'd NEVER get that type of exposure or opportunity at Iowa.

I see the same thing happening for Nwankpa and Proctor. I understand that Nwankpa plays D and Phil Parker's defenses rank way at the top, but no one wants to play for a losing team.

Yeah just depends on where their heads are. The options on the table for Proctor are just endless. And all of them are better then what Iowa can offer him in the short term. I'll be more surprised if he is a Hawk then if he goes somewhere else next yr.

XN is different in that DBs and safeties aren't exactly looked at as impactful in the same way as a dominant LT is. He's still an ubber athletic highly thought of talent with 3 yrs to play (unless he gets hurt he's burned his RS I think) I wouldn't be surprised if he looked around too. I'd just say his odds of staying are way better.

Would not have guessed that Purdue donors had that kind of money to throw around. Jones is a good player, and it was a great move for him, but paying a million for a return guy and part time reciever is hefty. I assume the donors have to pay the existing players of this caliber similar money. I mean, if you have been at Purdue as a starter for several years and some transfer comes in with a million bucks being tucked in his pocket, you are going to want a piece of that pie too or you would be pissed. That type of shit can tear a team apart. Even assuming not all the starters get that sort of money, you figure the QB and other bigger stars would get even more. Never pegged Purdue as having a 25 million dollar team salary.

The big time recruit o-linemen who either commit to or rebuff Iowa typically end up sucking or just being average. Blake Larsen. The whole 2005 class (granted Doering got mono but he never panned and Dace got hurt). Seantrell Henderson. Ross Pierschbacher (I think he fucked up going to Bama). Kozan. I ain't worried about Proctor going elsewhere, unless dude comes to Iowa to get Doyle-ized and learns blocking technique from The Cap'n he's going to be a UDFA at best and be a journeyman practice squad player at best.

Jones is a star that they wanted to get bad. Very, very few players are like that and no way is everyone, especially 25, players going to get paid the same.

Whether he plays for a shitty team or not is immaterial.

As far as donors’ money, Purdue grads ain’t broke. It’d make your head spin to see the amount of money given away every year to Big Ten football programs.

Iowa MIGHT beat Northwestern but I cannot see another win beyond that. So Iowa finish 4-8 this season, that is not what Proctor and Nwankpa signed up for. I can't claim to know these guys personally but it's tough to see any of them stick around. The transfer portal is going to be full of Hawkeye players if Ferentz doesn't right this ship.

I think Nwankpa stays and hopefully he is in Proctor’s ear about staying committed to the Hawks.

Arlan Bruce
Keegan Johnson

I am more worried about these two leaving than I am Proctor and Nwankpa.

X and KP will be at Iowa next season. Take it to the bank. X is following the exact same route Cooper did last year. Special teams Frosh year. Starting and impact player Soph year.
KP is guaranteed to start next season at Iowa. Go pro after his JR. year. At Alabama,Ohio State and the major schools they are loaded on the line already and or have how many 4-5 star OL redshirting and committed.

Losing Johnson wouldn't be the worst thing ever. That kid can't seem to play 3 games in a row anyway. Maybe that'll change but dudes that seem to get nicked up like that tend to stay that way.

I know you say you're a SEP parent, but everything changes when dollar signs get tossed around and Iowa's coming apart at the seams.

Charlie Jones was a hardcore dedicated Hawkeye too until he had an opportunity come his way.

No question about it, Iowa likely has roster trouble coming it's way....especially if they can't turn this year around. Big time recruits want to go to the pros and they can get a shit ton of money right now.......as much as a long for greater team loyalty....and I think there will be always a certain degree of it....by and large it is an all about me society.

You make a good point with Charlie Jones. He was no fool...he saw what was coming and bolted getting rich in the process.
