WILL IOWA START A HOCKEY PROGRAM?

Quite a bit of difference between a high level club team and a full fledged d1 program. NDSU has won several NCAA club national championships. UND won't even send a JV team to scrimmage them.

Right, maybe read some of the previous posts. They are a D1 club team. Sorry I used program. Good grief.

It just touched a nerve. Most on here have no idea what it would take to make hockey go at Iowa.

Has anyone said that it would be an easy task to do? No. It's not something that is happening, its something apparently a few people would like to see someday.

I just find it funny when posters say recruiting wont be a problem or title IX need not be a consideration or think that we would be anything other than a long term doormat in D1 hockey.

Let's try to improve the sports we have to a consistently good level on the national stage before we try something we have no business even looking at.

And I do not disagree with this. That's why I say someday. It's not feasible right now in any way. But it's nice to talk about and its good to know there are people who would like to see it.

1. I do think you're overblowing the recruiting angle. There are tons of talented players in the region and only so many spots at the traditional powers for them.

2. No one has tried to dispute the financial barriers. You keep harping on it like we're all completely oblivious to it.

3. All anyone has said is that they'd love to see hockey in Iowa. No one's demanding Barta get it done. It's wishful thinking, and you're getting your panties in a wad over it.

Sorry Tork, I'm a grown a$$ man. I don't wear panties.

As long as we are talking about fantasies then, maybe we should start a unicorn dressage team. The facility requirements will be easier to meet.

Could you bow a little lower Tork? I am not yet appeased.

Tork wont admit he is wrong and wont give up on the argument....its part of his charm. Its teh journalist in him.

Clearly you are 100% right on with pretty much everything you have said in this thread.

I guess if that's what you're into, who are we to judge?

For the love of God man please tell me he didn't actually graduate from Iowa, and with a journalism degree to boot.

I would never have believed that a message board would cost the University of Iowa over a 100,000 dollars, but that finalizes it. No way are my kids considering the University of Iowa academically, if that's the kind of product they are putting out.

Whoa there. I'd put the very top kids out of Iowa up against the best kids in the country. Now the average and bottom kids, well, I'd trust them to bring me a beer or valet my car.

Where have I said this is going to happen or is financially feasible? I've never argued that hockey is coming to Iowa, or that it would ever be viable. But no one's offered anything remotely close to proof that Iowa wouldn't be able to field a decent team eventually, if they decided to start a program.

No one needs to. It's called common sense. Same reason I don't have to prove an imaginary deity doesn't exist.i don't believe in fairy tails or magic.

Are you trying to call him gay? What happened to tolerance?

Nowhere was that implied.

Just like it's fairy tails and magic to think Iowa might field competitive teams in other sports, despite not having a strong in-state talent base?

First off when Iowa gets a hockey team they ain't going to have home games 25 minutes north at the CR Ice Arena and they won't have to spend a dime to add all the things necessary to have hockey at Carver when they have one of the nicest ice arenas in their own backyard-

Not to mention the food court is right behind the rink so they wouldn't have to pay vendors to sell concessions they would just have to set up an agreement with the food court owners to sell their amazing cuisine to Iowa Hockey Fans.

Scheels is right down the way so if they need an extra puck or some equipment they can just head their to stock up.

This is a no brainer and a win all around.

Slam dunk.

So, your saying there's a chance.

You know like an infinite number of monkeys hammering away at a keyboard. It is a certainty that one of them will duplicate the entire works of Shakespeare.

Is that the kind eventuality you are peddling?
