Will Iowa pay for the CBI?

Iowa needs the postseason games no matter where they are, and I'm starting to think that they aren't going to make the NIT. They could get a few home games in the CBI, and they can even tell Jok that he doesn't have to play and he can start getting ready for NBA combines. But the kids need games, against anyone, anywhere, in any tournament.

Agreed, games like tonight show they need as much game time as they can get.

This looked nothing like the team from Thursday.

They did look like the same team from the first half against Purdue (and Rutgers) though, just managed to put a complete game together with two bad defensive halves instead of just one.

Stop it. They will make the NIT. Despite what you saw tonite I still think they are a bubble NCAA tournament team.

with a team this young maybe, but any other year turn it down like a olive loaf and sauerkraut sandwich

Pay to play? What are we just whores to congressmen now? :D

I say no, two or three more games aren't going to make much difference to these kids anyways. What good would it do to be playing lower level teams? Maybe tonight you just got a taste of what life without Joc is going to look like.

I've maintained since the November prediction thread that CBI is the most likely post season for this team. Sort of forgot / wasn't sure if it was "beneath" Iowa. If so, guess they'll be watching and learning, rather than playing and learning in mid-March.

To clarify ... this is not bagging on the team. I really like this team's grit, confidence and short memory. It's quite refreshing after often seeing low effort and / or flat-out quit by the last few teams'. I look forward to it bearing fruit sometime in 2018.

Right now, their just too young and discombobulated, especially on D (something Fran needs to adjust to simplify and better match his guys' abilities to the set; start with abandoning that STUPID hedge!). We see the youthful inconsistencies in level of play and focus from game to game. As the B14 progresses, Jok is going to be easier to defend. Some are already showing wear and tear and "the wall" is yet to come.

If this team gets 7 or 8 wins in conference, keeps fighting and playing fearless basketball, shows consistency in defensive effort and positioning for rebounds, you've gotta call it a successful season. That 15-17 wins probly still won't be quite enough for the NIT.

Getting into the NIT isn't like it used to be now that the rules have changed. They don't just take any above-.500 big conference team now that there's a selection committee and that regular-season conference winners of small conferences get auto-bids. You can be a decent big-conference team and not get into the NIT. The difference is that most high-major teams have been declining anything other than the NIT because "it's beneath them". I don't think the CBI/Vegas 8 is beneath Iowa. They need the games.

A lot of the Iowa players appear to be banged up. It could be a long season. If Iowa basketball doesn't shorten the winter, Trumps inauguration and first month or so in office should.
