Tyrone tracy mnf

I feel 180 degrees different about TT than I do Charlie Jones. Jones isn't a Hawk, he left for the money. I don't blame him because I'm pro-free market about these things, but as a Hawk he's dead to me. Hawks took him in as an orphan and gave him a chance to earn a scholarship which he did. He left Buffalo super cocky thinking he was going to get a bunch of scholarship offers but he didn't.

Tyrone Tracy was not wasted talent. If he was wasted talent he wouldn't be getting national headlines in NFL games. We just didn't capitalize on his talent. Tracy was the victim of Spencer Petras and an out-over-his-skis OC who thought Nico Ragaini was the 2nd coming of christ, which he was VERY clearly not. I always told my friends that Ragaini 100% had compromising nudie pics of Brian being somewhere he wasn't supposed to be.

Ragaini was a 5 year starter and had a whopping 4 receiving TDs. Tracy could also run the ball which Nico couldn't. Oh, and Ragaini's Parents were gigantic a-holes when I met them a few times at the Marriott tailgate. Better than everyone and you could tell they thought if they lowered themselves to the level of interacting with midwest commoners they might get some manure smell on themselves. Extremely, extremely primadonna. Maybe it's an east coast thing and they didn't feel comfortable being social, I dunno. I'm digressing...

In fairness to the program, cases like Tracy are fraught with 20-20 hindsight.

He was recruited as a WR and to serve as a bit of a gadget player and returner. The talent level around him wasn't the best, for sure, but he failed to take advantage of the opportunities when he got them - his hands were very suspect, as was his route running and return ability. The staff fed him plenty of reps and gave him every chance, but he just couldn't get any traction.

He got a fresh start at Purdue, but one has to wonder if his subsequent success was due to better coaching and utilization, or did he mature and work harder on his game? Probably a little of both, but either way I'm happy for him. He could have given up but he worked to get better, and it's paying off.

Agree with DieHard. Iowa's coaches liked Tracy and he started out with promise. But his last year in Iowa City was a real struggle -- I remember numerous routes where the ball was put on his numbers and he simply couldn't catch the ball. He had every chance to succeed but just couldn't get the job done.
Fast forward to Purdue -- they obviously realized he didn't have WR hands, and shifted him to RB/All Purpose Back. Honestly, he was OK at Purdue, but didn't set the world on fire. And I don't think he's any better today than Iowa's #1 and #2 RBs playing for the Hawks this year.
By all accounts he's a high-character guy, and I'm glad for him. But let's not do revisionist history here.

Tracy wasted one year at Purdue as a WR before he was switched to RB in his extra Covid year. Tracy was extremely lucky to have that extra year and to have an assistant coach at Purdue recognize his potential to play RB

Julius Brents (currently injured at Indianapolis) is another player who couldn't quite harness his talent at Iowa after a promising start. He got hurt, Moss passed him up on the depth chart, and he finally transferred to K-State. He too found his way to the NFL
