Will Iowa ever have a QB that can throw

Over-the-top hyperbole, but there is a point.

Gronowski is a gamer and has some moxie, but his accuracy at times is surprisingly awful, and, his misses are not just occasions where the pass should have been "front shoulder and not back shoulder." He's been off by several feet at times with relatively routine passes, something you wouldn't expect from a QB with his experience and success.

It's almost as if he has forgotten the importance of using the lower body, something that QB coaches preach in order to be consistently accurate.

Perplexing.

This is a factual post.
It's utterly bizarre to see Gron repeatedly, in game 10 of the season, still throwing the ball at receivers' feet on simple screen passes, or throwing it in the dirt 2 yds in front of a WR who's open 15 yds down the field.
Repeatedly.
And the most striking thing about these throws is that he's rarely under pressure when he's throwing them. Iowa's OLine this year is one of KF's best, and most of Gron's errant throws have come with no pressure...that's what makes them inexcusable.

His shoulder injury combined with knee issues may have something to do with his erratic passes. Too many of his throws are surprisingly bad.

He is puzzling as some of the easiest passes look like he is chocking then he throws one like he is Joe Montana. That last pass was a great example of what he can do. If the defensive player had not of knocked him out of bounds that would have been a completion. There should be a rule that if the player would have come down in bounds had the defensive player basically shoved him out of bounds, the catch should be considered a legal completion.

Question? Is there a rule on this type of play in the NFL? I mean lets exaggerate for a second. What if he had caught the ball five yards away from the out of bounds markers but the opponent carries you over and throws you out of bounds? Also, because it can be dangerous to the ball carrier the coaching staff should be able to challenge a missed facemask. Why should that be any different than any other personal foul???

I don't honestly mind Gronowski as I think he's definitely an improvement. I also totally understand the situation were in with recruiting receivers as were a run first offense trying to reestablish a passing game, but watching Oregon and USC the last couple weeks has made me realize how far behind we are when it comes to receivers. I mean I get that there some of the best in the country, but would love to consistently see guys shake defenders and find gaps in coverage and find a way to hold on to anything that comes there way. I definitely see the need for growth at the WR position and hope that as our offense progresses the quality of receivers continues to as well, and I don't mean that as a shot at our current group of receivers in any way, shape, or form.

I agree with your take. As for receivers that can grab anything thrown their way, we have one. Dayton Howard has consistently caught balls that were difficult throws. The TD he had against USC was not easy in dry weather. Very good hands. I just wish he would see the field a little more. Maybe he doesn't have blazing speed but he has shown the ability to make the tough catch.

Gronowski is an improvement from what we have had for many moons that is for sure. Gamer. Just not a high quality thrower. Could be still injury related, I have no idea but I'll bet if I looked at tape from SD State I'd see something different. I am Viking fan so I see these throws that I could make but McCarthy can't. On Saturday's I see similar, 0-4 these past two weekends. Gotta rethink where I place my quality time. See 49ers to see what impact of a high quality thrower can do for a team. Hope for the season has returned.

Apparently one aspect of the Kirk regime that will never change is we have to train our QBs to be super fearful of an interception, so they throw every fucking ball at the receiver's feet. We had multiple incompletions against USC because Mark threw at their feet. The INT off Gill's fucking knee only happened because we train our QBs that the last place to throw the ball is to the receiver's hands.

Now this is just a dumb take lol.

That ball was completely catchable. Gill was moving to the right (from scrimmage perspective), defender coming in hot from the right as well. MG was flushed out also to the right, and was throwing across his body. He put that ball in the perfect spot under the circumstances. If Gill was moving to the left (or had just frozen in place which is what he should've done) with a defender trailing him then maybe your statement could hold some water, but he wasn't. In fact, if you go back and actually watch the play, there was another defender coming in from the left and if MG put the ball out over Gill's right shoulder there's a good chance he gets it picked and for sure batted away. Did you actually watch the play? Literally nothing about that was Gronowski's fault.

We have years of an oatmeal offense and the reputation that needs to be over come. It is beggining to happen but the guys on roster and who have committed with represent a very good step forward.

Tim's done a nice job selling the future.
