Why Was DJK Cut By the CFL and the Barnstormers?

Can't say I followed him much past Iowa. Just knew he never got a shot at the NFL. Did he land on a CFL team or Arena league team at all?

Kinda like Wadley at RB. Stand out skill player at Iowa, but gets lost in the shuffle on a national level.

to be fair to AW, if he could play with the same agility at 210 lbs, he'd be in the NFL for 10 years or as long as his body held up. he's to small for the NFL.

I almost refuse to think a healthy Wadley can't play in the league. He isn't a bell cow back sure. But he can play 20 snaps with 10-12 touches a game no problem at that level. Some of his best games in college were against PSU and Michigan. For peats sake if you can do what he did against them he can play against the pros too. Just needs the right team/fit

For my money, best on field receiver Hawks ever had. Dude was not afraid of going over middle and taking a hit and could get open and do stuff after catch.

oh, i agree. i was talking in terms of "bell cow" type. i thought AW would have a chance as a rb/wr type. i thought his agility would translate into an open field type situation and crossing in front of lb's in the pass game.

Daren Sproles says Hi. Rex Burkhead.

I don't know. There have been small RB's in the NFL in the past. I would think Wadley would be decent enough size to contribute.

I always thought Daren Sproles had a surprisingly long career only being 5' 6". I can't believe he lasts that long in the NFL.

This is my take to.

by small, i'm talking about weight. AW couldn't even keep is weight at 190 lbs until his SR season. i don't there there are a lot of 185 lb rb's in the NFL. so a team would really have to have a specific and carved out role for a rb at 185/190 lbs.

KF is that you?

Players fall thru the cracks at the college level and the NFL level. Remember a guy named Kurt Warner coming close to a career at Hy-Vee instead of the NFL? If size guaranteed playing time NFL WR Willies would've started ahead of the skinny feel-good story.

He also wasn't afraid to back off and let opposing DBs make the pick. And he certainly didn;t mind giving up on a route or throw if he wasn't the primary.

To be fair, he DID become a very good downfield blocker.

the difference is that kurt warner had all of the physical attributes (height/weight/arm strength/etc) to play in the NFL and AW doesn't have them all. and, as a rb, weight is a big deal in order to take the pounding a NFL rb takes.

Sproles was a lot more solid, shorter and stouter. Wadley is much taller and leaner, makes a bigger target and not as much meat to absorb the blow. Some of Wadley's best games were against the best competition as others have said. I thought this would translate well at the Pro level.

He's still playing pro ball, just not in the NFL. If he can have a good showing in the new league he still has a shot. His elusiveness and vision is a rarity IMO. Despite his size he does a really good job of knowing when he won't be able to evade a tackler, and putting his shoulder into them - driving them back for a few extra yards. I really think the fumble that he had during the game with the huge kickoff return really killed his chances with the Titans. It's the same reason he was doughoused early in his career at Iowa.

I thought he was elusive enough to know how to avoid hard hits. This is why I think he'd be that good 3rd down back that can catch. The elusiveness factor I think is what also benefited Sproles.
