Well it is nice to see that Homer has brought his typical optimism from the football threads into the basketball threads. His overtly positive posting is refreshing.
Refreshing is not the word that came to mind for me.

I'll bet that 'pundit' on the B1G network that said Iowa would win the B1G because of its depth had an immense effect on Bilas' opinion. Most of these pundits go to publicists of respective teams for their info. Very few (especially announcers) do the research on a team. You realize they have things called "tapes" right? Or do you think they get all of their pre-game insight from message boards?
Some of those teams have good to acceptable transition defense, like MSU, for example.. Iowa doesn't have it. Especially when McCabe, Basabe, or Uthoff plays center.Basically, or something.
Only 17 players bring positive value, based on the number of 3-pointers made/missed, in the entire country. Nik Stauskas isn't one of them.
What to lose? Keep playing McCabe, Uthoff, or,IMO, a shaky Oglesby? Why didn't Fran red-shirt Jok if he wasn't going to use him? When other outside shooters are failing? And some refuse to shoot much from the outside?Because hes clearly not as good as the other players.

Bilas hasn't analyzed the facts, then. Ask Dickie V. what he thinks. Someone during a TV game asked Vitale who were contending teams for the B1G title and he didn't even mention Iowa. (neither did the play by play guy).mr bilas tweeted that he has watched every iowa game since december and we are a legit final 4 quality team.
what say you now?

Oglesby is, IMO, 1 of probably 2 Hawkeyes, right now, consistantly shooting the ball well from the outside. Better believe Iowa's opponent is covering Oglesby like a blanket. You can't shoot at 50+% and be shaky. He has drilled it this season and your obvious attempt at singling out a player who has been putting it through the hoop has no weight.

He's a standup shooter. Not athletic. Can't create his own shot. Doesn't really have a height advantage.
I'm an Iowa fan. I'm not a polyannaish Iowa fan. I don't go half cocked about Iowa's chances.. in football or basketball.Homer, do yourself a favor and find a new team. This one is providing too much angst for your mental health.

i will agree with you that opposing defenses have played him well, but he consistently sprints the baseline wearing out his defender and his defense is always solid. He's smart with the ball, has great vision and makes good passes. The guy rarely has a turnover.
Can't uou get something more current? This was made before the beginning of the 2013-2014 season. And V. called Iowa a darkhorse - a team to keep you eye on in the B1G. My referral of V. not including Iowa came as he called a game (I think Kansas game) after Iowa had been beaten by Michigan.
