That's a rather myopic view.
This thread is getting weird. His view seems well considered and not myopic at all. Simply because you have reached a conclusion does not mean that your thought process was myopic.

Once again, you're wrong. I initially thought you were just a smart azz that liked to add some humor to a post but I've now come to realize that you just don't get it.
Whether the next coach has ties to Iowa or not really makes no difference. It's whether he is a good recruiter and a good coach that is going to make the difference.
RMK had no ties to the state of Indiana, born in Ohio, played Ohio St, coached at Army.
Krzyzewski - had no ties to Duke, born in Illinois, played at Army, coach in Indiana and then Army before going to Duke
Bill Self had no ties to Kansas, he was born in OK, went to OK state
Roy Williams has ties to North Carolina (born in the state) but it took him 15 years of head coaching before he got his chance.
John Calipari has no ties to KY. He was born in PA and played ball a UNC-Wilmington and Clarion and he wasn't that good.
I would probably rate all 5 of those coaches as the best that there have been in the past 40 years and only one had any remote ties to the program that they are currently leading.
Ties have nothing to do in your success but they sure as he!! can be a crutch for mediocrity. So what if Keno went to high school in Iowa City. He only lived there from Soph. year on. So what if he sat on the bench holding a clipboard and a water bottle. I could care less if his dad was our coach...look at what RMK's kid has done at Texas Tech. He is on the hot seat.
Ties are just something that those of you that want Keno as our coach are trying to use.

What I mean is that it is important to get a coach who can embrace the state, and whom the fans will be able to embrace.
And let me add one more thing and then I'm done with any response regarding Keno.
Mr. Davis Davis had NO ties to Iowa City prior to his arrival in 1986. He was born in Wisconsin, earned his bachelors and masters in Wisconsin and his doctorate in Maryland. He started coaching at Lafayette then went on to Boston College and then to Stanford before arriving at Iowa.
If Mr. Davis had no ties to the city and was successful (see also Lute Olson and George Raveling) then why in sam he!! would it matter that our next coach has ties?
Olson is a native of ND and never coached in Iowa prior to being our head coach.
George Raveling had no ties to Iowa what-so-ever prior to being our head basketball coach.
Please give this Keno Davis thing a rest.
Self, Williams and Calipari all were top coaches when they were hired by three of the top 5 programs in the country. How does this relate to Iowa hiring a coach? Kansas, Kentucky, and UNC are jobs almost every coach would love to have, do you really think Iowa is on the same level as those jobs?
Ask Kentucky what Billy Donovan said about their opening. He turned them down before they offered Gillispie. There were a few other names as well that didn't want the job. Ask Indiana if Crean was their top choice or if Sampson was their top candidate initially. Same goes for Kansas and Self. Every program has the potential of being turned down. If you offer enough money and the right incentives people will listen. We may not get Pearl but why settle for an unproven coach?

As far as I can tell, no one in this thread has been praising Keno. I never have.
However, you are kind of making my point for me. Olson and Raveling were not "Iowa Guys", they did not embrace the community, and they left Iowa for other schools. Mr. Davis was not from Iowa, but he understood Iowa, and loved Iowa as much as we loved him. Olson left for AZ suddenly, while Mr. Davis kept living in IC even after we fired him.
GhostofBTT-no entiendo bien el frances, asi que nos das la traduccion por favor. Anyone who sprinkles their posts with french is under suspicion in my view for lack of IA ties. Este estado tiene muchos hispanos, asi que nos tomes en cuenta por favor.
Unfortunately, I never got the impression that he really embraced Iowa City.
I think more important than a tie to Iowa is that the new coach be an "Iowa person". By that I mean someone who is genuine, honest, self effacing, and humble but also hard working and diligent. I think a slick, used-car-salesman type may succeed in Iowa in the short run if he wins enough but he won't get much leeway from most Iowans should he falter. I think the Iowa character is what has made Kirk and Tom Davis so popular amongst Iowans. It doesn't matter where they were born or even if they have ever been to Iowa. They just have to be "Iowan" at their core.
Of course, it would be nice if they also used a full court press and knew how to move the ball up the court with some style.
