Why Gessel?

Hey stupid, a PG isn't supp to be scoring 20 a game. He's supposed to have a good assist/turnover ratio. That's what makes a good point gaurd.

LOL offensive rating isn't just about scoring stupid. Gesell has a 22.8 TO rate by far the highest of his career, you know it's generally not good for your pg to give the ball back to the defense that often. He's only had less than 3 TO's once in the last six games, he's only had more than 3 assists twice in the last six games. So that's a huge fail, try again please!

Just curious, but what is a turnover rate and how did you compute the 22.8 rate? Just wondering.

Per KenPom:

Turnover Rate (TORate): This is the percentage of personal possessions used on turnovers. It can be highly dependent on context. Players that do little passing or dribbling (i.e. spot-up shooters) will have an artificially deflated TO%.

Mike was at 15.8 last year.

I also noticed far too many pump fakes to nowhere tonight.

That said, 43% on a lot of open looks...

FG% is irrelevant. Iowa held Minnesota to a 40% shooting pct last night. But Iowa allowed them more shot opportunties because they turned the ball over and allowed the Gophers about 3 or 4 offensive rebounds at critical times in the second half.

A team doesn't need to shoot 50% every game to win. Actually, 43% is usually good enough when you're holding opponents to 40%.

We’re blaming Gessell? LOL. Every coach in America calls a TO in that situation except ours, and the result was a Chinese fire drill. We wonder why we are so bad in late game situations..

I'll be the guy that disagrees. I much prefer the potential breakdowns associated with not letting the other team set their defense. And there are a lot of other coaches that handle it the same way...no timeout.

It also doesn't allow the other coach to tell his guys to foul rather than let us get off a 3...statistically proven to be by far the best play in these situations. Gesell needed to kick the ball out for an open 3 on that play...which he didn't do. And the rest of the team needed to be spotted around the 3 point line...seemed like they were in a team bear hug at the time all standing in 1 spot.

If you can't trust a 3 year starting pg to make the play...says a lot about the pg.

I don't mind the aggressiveness but it wasn't needed at that point.

Was there really anyone open for the three there? Point guards do was MG did all the time in that situation. Down three with 15 or so seconds, they drive in for the layup and get it to one and then the team plays defense or fouls. Just didn't work this time cause the Minny guy made a good play.

Truth is, it didn't work so MG gets crucified by the Friday morning point guards.

By the way gliding...the next time you tell me you've been nervous about a game all week I think I will start to get nervous as well. I didn't see this effort coming.

I don't think Gesell had a particularly good game...also think this was a tough back court match up for Iowa. But to the random few calling for Dickerson...not an option. If another guy was going to be on point in that situation it has to be Clemmons. He was having a pretty good 2nd half on both ends of the court.

I think Dickerson could have missed all his shots, had a negative assist to turnover rating and lost the ball on the last play of the game.

WTF is the matter with some of you people? My gosh, we lost a game and we didn't play well. Now "Aaron White is the worst player on the floor", "Mike Gesell is horrible and TD should start", "Fran should be fired"

Knee jerk much?

30 plus minutes and 0 points ain't gonna cut it Mikey!!! Throw in another 11 minutes and 0 points from Ogeslby and we got 0 points in 41 minutes from these 2.

Worst player on the court goes to Uthoff, followed by White then Ogelsby. Ogelsby ruins our chemistry PERIOD

What are you talking about? I actually made the comment in the 1st half that Uthoff was the 1 guy trying to run the same offense we ran the last 2 games. He was passing up shots because he actually understood moving the ball was the key to winning. He got a key late steal. He made 3 FTs when fouled late in the game. He blocked a late shot that looked like an easy layup. I missed the sarcasm if it was there.

Wow... Uthoff huh? the guy who lead the team in scoring, rebounding and blocks and only committed 1 turnover?

Might want to watch the game again bud.
