Why Gessel?

We’re blaming Gessell? LOL. Every coach in America calls a TO in that situation except ours, and the result was a Chinese fire drill. We wonder why we are so bad in late game situations..

That's really my criticism with Fran. Mr. Davis seemed to always have a good out of bounds play that would always produce points. An extra 8+ points a game would be nice.

Yeah, this isn't a well coached team.

To many guys making the same mistakes over and over.

Fran obviously knows how to teach a mean pump fake at the 3 point line though.

I also noticed far too many pump fakes to nowhere tonight.

That said, 43% on a lot of open looks...

Its been this teams MO for two years.

Theyre obviously being coached to do it.

It's a terrible strategy for this group of players because most defenders have it scouted and don't bite and when they do none of Iowas guys are quick enough to go anywhere.

All it does is cost us open threes.

Mike had as many points tonight as Dickerson. Jok was blanketed by Andre Collins and got 16. All Mike had to do was beat a freshman tonight and we win. Instead, zero points, three turnovers. Played as bad as I've seen him play. He'd be 4th on Minnesota's depth chart at pg. He just has no feel for the game. He's got skills, just no feel. And yes we needed a 3 there. Ten seconds left down 3. So if he scores then what? Foul and pray? I'm so tired of hearing people say "we don't need a three here".
I also hated that we didn't foul with a minute to go. Down 3 with Minnesota's ball. I feel like you foul until it's tied or down no more than two. Instead, Minnesota runs off 30 seconds and we still foul. These are kids. If this was the nba it'd be different, but to expect kids to play defense for 35 seconds, then come down, hit a two, foul, come down, hit another two in a thirty second timeframe is senseless.

Bingo! We had two timeouts. We needed to set up a play. At least instruct whether to go for three or two. Gesell looked very hesitant and actually did hesitate before driving. I think all five could have been confused/unsure.

I am not a fan of Fran's coaching style. He stands up a lot but isnt real active. Arms folded and seemingly not too engaged. ?? Fair criticism? Will turn his head a lot and seemingly complain to someone who will listen but just seems distant. Maybe one of those coaches who has faith in his players running their half-court offense. But why? This team needs a lot of instruction because their offensive "execution" is real head scratching most of the time.

Just watched some video of post game press conference .

Reporter asked Fran if he considered using a timeout on basically last possession to set up three.

He said no because he THOUGHT Mike would take a two and then they could call timeout to set up our press.

Question #1- Didn't we have two timeouts remaining? Unless TV graphic was wrong.

Perplexing. Because we could have called timeout to set up play and still had one to set up press.

question #2- He THOUGHT Mike would take a two. Is he saying it was the player's call to take a two or three? Wasn't definitive?

Again, I would like to have seen a timeout for some coaching/instruction. I really think it is lacking at times.

agree. Don't need a 3? Were we not down by 3? did Gesell not turn down a wide open 3? What a joke. Get a real PG or forget about it. Dickerson should have played earlier in the year with meaningful minutes. If not, he NEVER should have been recruited. The lack of a decent PG has been our problem ever since Fran has been here. Sorry, but this should be the easiest position to fill. How many 6 foot quick kids are there? Answer: Hundreds. the whole PG issue has been puzzling to me. UNI has 2 quality point guards that I would take in a heartbeat. Gesell would be a fine backup

That was absolutely horrible. He's an upperclassman, and still doesn't know the rules. I'd start Trey in the next game to make sure he pays attention next time.

Oh yeah, great idea! Start a guy who hasn't played a total of 10 minutes the last 10 games over him because he made a bad decision or three tonight. Seems logical. What are these rules you are speaking of? Pay attention to what? What are you talking about? I know you have probably never played or coached, but doing that is the worst idea ever. First bad loss of the year, we will be just fine so back off the ledge...lose Sunday and you can have a little more to worry about, but Minnesota has been playing well lately. Simma!

Sitting behind the bench tonight, I can assure you Fran was not happy with the hesitant trigger fingers. I think he set the record for most "grow some balls and shoot the ******* ball" remarks from a coach. It wasn't pretty. Josh sat forever for being passive, still didn't shoot. Mike won't look. Jok passed more shots than ever. Just saying from what I personally heard from the coaches, they weren't imstructed....

Aaron White was the worst player on the court tonight on both ends. No question. Idc if he ended up with 13. Thinks he's gonna get a call every time and plays the laziest defense I've ever seen. He's looked like an all about me player this year that has got caught up in the spot light.

There is no way anyone was worse than Mike last night

I halfway agree with this considering he is suppose to be the leader of this team. (not so much about the all about me player remark though). But it didn't seem like he knew a basketball game was going on until about 2 minutes left in the game. He was completely invisible until that time.

Agree. Whenever iowa plays bad it's beca he, as a senior, doesn't seem to want it. But when he acts like he cares about winning which is rare we beat teams like OSU and Maryland. White has been the most inconsistent player on this team
