Why does McCabe get such BS calls?

I feel bad for this guy. He gets called for fouls nobody else on the floor gets called for. I have rewatched a lot of these supposed fouls and I don't know what he is supposed to do differently on probably 50% of the calls he gets whistled for.

Do the officials have it out for him? Is it an unlucky and perpetual coincidence? Or am I blind and he is really hacking guys all the time?

Don't feel bad for him; it was a charge on Olidipo today, but traditionally McCabe doesn't have a concept of defense.

McCabe takes charges, but is bailed out by them in the "charge-happy" world of college basketball today. He moves his feet poorly and loses his man in all defenses.

Zach is more concerned about scoring than simple defensive concepts, he has gotten better at taking charges, but not defense overall.

Ding ,ding ding!
Move your feet son!
Product of a HS PG playing the 4 with no 5 to help him out.

You guys are probably right about him not moving his feet, but he still gets called for touch fouls like crazy. That has to be so frustrating for him. To his credit he doesn't show it much. But we need him to stay out of foul trouble to give us an inside presence. When we were struggling during that 9-0 IU run in the 2nd half, we really could have used a post feed to him for 2, but he wasn't in the game.

Both points are correct...Zach needs to improve his defense and he'll start getting those calls instead of getting hosed on some of them...players and teams seem to get the benefit of the doubt more often when they have a reputation as a good defender.

He doesn't show it much? I don't think we watch the same game.

I think it would do him some good to sit on the bench to start the game, just so he can see how tight the refs are calling the game.

I mean when he gets called for this ticky tack fouls he doesn't turn to the officials and complain. Unlike Sheehy where every time he got called tonight he complained.

1. Commits a lot of dumb fouls near half court.
2. Not a great defender right now - looks a little clumsy and doesn't move his feet.

Frankly, he should be coming off the bench IMO - but he is a good player and is going to get bette next year! A real tough kid and a great Hawk.

remember he is actually only in his second year of playing downlow. he was a guard in hs and a tweener last year. he is learning the skill of the post and it is much harder than some realize. i think he will do a lot better next year. but i agree with most if we had more and he was coming off the bench it would be beneficial to him.

Part of it is that he plays with abandon and looks awkward as a barely 6' 7" un athletic, kinda bumbly nerd (with a few extra pounds) and a bad hair cut that could no way make a defensive play or stop.

Let alone have a quick first step or any athletic offensive skills.

Hey it's 2012 and Linsanity is every where.. how about Zackwooowooism?

He gets himself in terrible position and is late to the play. He takes a good amount of charges though and officials LOVE calling charges.

Again, this is exactly what I am questioning. McCabe makes more faces and complains to the officials more than anyone else on the team. He was worse last year though.

McCabe has the same issues Brommer does. Slow of foot, no hops and playing a level over his abilities. Is he capable of having a few nice decent games? Sure, we have seen a couple this season, but the body of work is far more representative of what we have seen the past 5-6 games. More fouls than points and incapable of staying on the floor because teams go right at him and he picks up quick fouls.

If he's not capable of hitting mid range jumpers, his only offense is rebounding, as his spin dribble move is a charge or travel waiting to happen.

Maybe if he didn't pout and demobstably object to every call in front of the officials he would start getting the benefit of the doubt. Waiving your arms in disgust and staring down the official that just made the call are not recipes for getting better calls.
