Why do you hate Norte Dame?

I grew up liking them a little bit. Watched them with my Grandfather who liked them a lot. Then I grew to hate them because they wouldn't join the B1G and I hated the 11 team B1G and I felt they were avoiding having to play in a conference and other major programs wouldn't be able to get away with that.

The last few years I've gotten to the point where I respect them. They're a midwest team that can recruit on a national level and you have to give them credit for playing a tough schedule. It doesn't bother me in the slightest to see them at 1-3.

They think they're this elite, holier than thou program, but they really aren't that good. They were good 50-100 years ago, but that means little now to anyone else. It's all they have to cling to and they think that it should mean something to anyone else.

Also their "fans" that like them just because they're Catholic.

Pretty much this for me. Reminds me of Nebraska in a lot of ways as well. Just get sick of all the attention they get despite being an average program for the better part of the past quarter century or so. I know, they played in the title game a few years ago, but they got totally steamrolled.

Then they'd struggle against a so-so team and trail for most of the game, and would seem to magically pull a last minute TD drive out of their arses at the lost minute and win, just to irritate me even further. Luck of the Irish! Pffft!

I respect their tradition from way back in the day, but sick of them getting the benefit of the doubt from all pundits year in and year out, when everyone knows they're overrated. Oh, and Lou Holtz is annoying as $h!t.

This is just a football thing for me. I don't mind their hoops program.

Elitist and overhyped every year. I hate them from a Catholicism standpoint, and how they use that as propaganda; even worse is that it works. Schools like Illinois can't get donations or fan support from people who have ties to the state and to the school because they're catholic, so Notre Dame is the beneficiary.

Sorry Jon, I know he hates Deadspin.

Because they think their shitick doesn't stink and they put themselves on a pedestal. They had to have their own network (NBC) televise their games so plugged up NBC every Saturday afternoon or night. they are takers but no givers. They want to schedule your conference teams and willing to take the $$, but not willing to join your conference, why, because they are more special in their eyes.

Nothing is better when ND is flaming out and changing coaches every 3 years, and NBC is forced to cover their games. Was loving it in the mid 2000's.

I despise them and I'm a converted Catholic for my wife. I've been on both sides.

I guess I don't really hate ND itself. But I do loathe Brian Kelly. The man forced a kid to go up in a scissor lift, when he didn't want to, during high winds. Lift blew over and kid was killed.

But hey, we gotta film practices.

I've never been a fan of ND. To me they've always been the program that refuses to join the conference yet had no problem scheduling a handful of BIG teams each year. I always found it as kind of a slap in the face to the conference and felt the exact same way when they became affiliated with the ACC but still refused to play the full conference slate in football. Too much superiority complex for me for a program that hasn't been elite for decades. Just not a fan.

When they hired Lou Holtz I instantly hated them. Look at Lou's past record. Everywhere he coached there was cheating with papers being done for the players, players being paid etc. Not one, not two, not 3 but his 4 previous stops. He claimed he knew nothing about it but if you look the allegations and findings are virtually identical at each stop. He left town quickly in each case and then the team earned some type of probation for the illegal activities under his watch. ND hired him when they were having a bad string of teams. They simply hired him with the realization he cheated because they wanted to win.

Deadspin article is a must read. Awesome! Hate them even more.

In 1953, Iowa Coach Forest Evashevski had the Hawkeyes rated number 20 in the nation when they played Notre Dame in the Hawkeyes last game of the year. Notre Dame was undefeated and had been ranked number 1 throughout the entire season. Notre Dame was led by halfback Johnny Lattner who would go on to win the 1953 Heisman trophy. Iowa was leading 7-0 with only 2 seconds left in the first half. ND had the ball on the Iowa 6 yard line but had no time outs left. ND then proceeded to do the only thing they could do: THEY CHEATED! A ND lineman fell over in a dead faint. The refs stopped the clock with 2 seconds left while the player was miraculously revived, and assisted off the field. While this was occurring the ND offense lined up and as soon as the refs started the clock the ball was hiked and the play resulted in a touch down pass. 7 to 7 at half time.
Second half Iowa scored a touch down with only 2:06 remaining in the fourth quarter to take a 14-7 lead. ND had no time outs left. The Iowa Hawkeyes in only Coach Evashevski's second year at Iowa, was on the brink of upsetting the number 1 ranked team in the nation. What was ND going to do? You probably guessed it. THEY CHEATED. ND drove 60 yards in the next 8 plays, After each play one or more ND players would be motionless on the field, faking an injury which would stop the clock and allow the ND offense to line up for the next play.Touch down with 6 seconds left on the clock. Tie game. Quote from announcer Bob Brooks, "...players were falling over like they had been shot".

I wasnt a big ND follower because they were playing Iowa and other Big 10 teams back in the day and still. I am Catholic and raised Catholic but not very Catholic now , just Christian principles but this aspect didnt bother me.

I thought they played a 50-50 schedule of some tough games but a lot of the military academies, many times bad Georgia Tech and teams like that.

I love South Carolina on that list. I guess I was wrong to assume your program had to be relevant to be hated nationwide. I love the domination of the SEC in that poll though, and think that Michigan should be ranked higher.
