Why Barta Signed Ferentz Long Term

Iowa can do better but the odds of finding a coach who would accomplish that are long.

I know your opinion, but to me its just playing the numbers game. If Iowa's ceiling is Wisconsin and Iowa's floor is Illinois...the odds of our next coach turning Iowa into Illinois (or Minnesota even) is much greater than Wisconsin....especially when Barta is the one making the next hire. You obviously think its worth the risk, I'm not so sure.

Is 8 wins a year "good enough" for Iowa? No, especially in the weak ass Big Ten West. But does anyone really trust Barta to hire someone that will take Iowa from 8 wins a year to 9?

I've been very clear that I don't want Barta hiring any coaches for Iowa. I'm also one of the few that actually think both Fran and Gary could both be gone a year from now if we miss the NCAAs next year, especially if we also miss the NIT.

Its possible. However, our new President signed off on Kirk and Fran's extensions, so to me that means he is completely content with the state of our 2 revenue generating sports now and into the near future. Which would also mean he's fine with Barta...especially after the Griesbaum fiasco.

It’s also possible the reason he did that is because the “education elite” at the school screamed he was an enemy because he came from business rather than their lineage so he was left to making friends where he could.

I would sure as hell hope so.

Harrold doesn't care one way or another. He is a defacto lame duck president. I imagine he defers matters in which he is not educated. My guess is he goes along with what Barta thinks since Barta is the only one with anything to lose.

The only problem with that is who hires the next BBall coach? Once March Madness is over, the "hot" coaches are scooped up pretty quickly. AD has to go first.

That being said, I fear that the East Campus faction may be finally getting what they want...a neutered athletic department.
