Why aren’t we going after hoiberg?

He’s won at a high level in the state, he’s available, and likely would not be cost prohibitive.
He connected in the state and Midwest, and already knows all the AAU coaches. He’s young and looking for a job.

I don’t see the ISU thing being an issue. It worked for dan gable

I'd take him as a top assistant in a flat minute to improve recruiting and light a fire under Fran but there's zero chance of that happening.

It's too bad. There are countless examples of fallen coaches taking an assistant role to get traction in their careers again. But probably more so in football. When you get a taste of being a czar in a small college town the lump of pride is too huge to swallow.

He's tainted. Gable was a once in a generation or three... exception. Freddie's "approach" would also not go over well with the East Bankers. He's also overrated. 1 Sweet sixteen ain't exactly hall of fame material. (outside of Ames). Good, but not great.

Recruiting was one of the main reasons he went to the NBA. So why would he want to go back to that?

  • He's good at it
  • It would help him restore his reputation
  • He may see it in a different light after his NBA experience.
  • One of the reasons he went the NBA was because of his Gar Foreman association
  • He wouldn't have the stress of being a head coach
  • He was well compensated enough by the Bulls that he can do what he wants without his hand being forced.
  • He is a college, not NBA coach.

For all I know, he may have his sights set on an NBA front office job, maybe even an AD job. Some have mentioned him (wishfully) as a potential Barta replacement.

1 sweet 16? That’s the same amount as Alford, lickliter and Fran combined. Hell, even the NCAA tournament itself seems like a pipe dream for Fran coached teams.

GM's in the NBA know he was given a dumpster fire to start with and the Bulls gave him gasoline to put it out with. He is not coming back to coach college ball. He enjoys coaching, not recruiting. And I'm sure you would take him as an assistant in a flat minute, but there are things in this world that will never happen in a million years, and that is one of them.

Assistant? Maybe Fran should be his assistant, can’t think of one thing Fran does better than hoiberg, except produce children who have talent.

Hence the passage in my post that says that there's a zero percentage chance of that happening. :).

I would equate that to never in a million years.

Alford fell short at Iowa (but has 4 Sweet 16s in his career) Lick sucked and Fran has to go. Hoiberg has a better record, but he's no John Wooden. Some speak of him as if he's the next coaching great in waiting. I don't see it.

Frans assistant? LOL
Tainted? LOLOL
Coaching Iowa? LOLOLOL

Put the meth down kids.
The idea of Dennis Rodman in 1991 playing for the Chicago Bulls someday. LOLOL.

The idea of longtime Saint Louis Cardinal nemesis and Carlos Zambrano antagonist Jim Edmonds playing for the Cubs 2008 division winning team. LOLOL

The idea of Ohio State 1960 national championship team member Bobby Knight coaching at rival Indiana for 29 years. LOLOL.

Cocaines a hell of a drug.

It would be pretty funny if Fred ever made his way to Iowa City.

The most famous ISU athlete and best amateur wrestler of all time goes to ISU but then coaches at Iowa and dominates his old school for 20 years.

The 2nd best wrestler ever goes to ISU, coaches there, but then leaves them for a pay check.

And then their favorite son and icon in basketball plays there, coaches there, and ends up at Iowa.
