Who We Gonna Throw To

Hopefully TJ. David Bell would be a nice addition ... he would be huge and have an immediate impact but not counting on us landing him. ISM and Brandon Smith will both be juniors and they both improved from their Freshman year. Wieting is going to get his turn at TE. Our three RBs caught 30 balls this year, that might increase next year. WR is still our biggest position of need.

David Bell? Yeah right. If both tight ends leave, then I'm not sure who Stanley will attempt to throw to. Smith, and Smith Marsette are not going to cut it at receiver. Watch the routes our receivers run, and you will see why they have trouble getting open. Especially if you're at the games, it is not good. If they do happen to break open, well Stanley has usually panicked and dumped it off already or thrown to the wrong person.

If Stanley's playing and you're sitting in the first 10 rows you bring your glove to Kinnick.

Even Harbaugh does it

The Tracy kid from Indy. Also, I think if Hock comes back, they put Beyer in as the speed TE and if he can prove to people that he can stretch a defense and CATCH the ball, we will still be in good shape.

Assuming that the balls thrown his way aren’t at his feet or 10 feet over his head...

There's a lot to criticize Kirk for but one thing he does do well is churn out good tight end prospects most of the time, most years. No worries there.

Well...IKM and Smith made huge progress this year. Hell, you could make a solid argument that we should have been throwing more to Smith. He didn't drop anything or if he did...it was one or two. He made some great catches.

I'm intrigued by Drew Cook. I'm not sure how fast he is, but he's an athlete...and a former basketball player, so he knows how to get open. I've heard Beyer can really run...so he's a candidate also. I hope Hock comes back though too.

Tracy is going to play...for sure next year. If I was KF though...I'd be looking for a JUCO impact WR who can come in and play right away. There has to be one out there...or a transfer somewhere. We need someone with world class speed that can run down Stanley's overthrows.

Hopefully Samson Evans can get into the mix. I'm not sure what his position will be, but he's listed at WR
Forgot all abut Evans. He was a QB in high school and supposed to be quite the athlete. Hopefully he's learned a lot at the WR position and can have an impact soon.

We need to work on routes and timing.
The timing thing is only going to come from Nate throwing the ball to them. Not just playing catch, but precision throws that are released at or before they even break. Other than that, work on some roll outs, and some touch on the deep balls.
This means someone is going to have to step up and say hey Nate, when can you throw some to me?
After class? Friday night?
Our passing game should take another big step forward this off season. That' why if I'm TJ I would consider coming back, unless I was a lock for the first round. More targets, better running, a more complete and cohesive team tends to really elevate everyone. Less double teams, less stacking the box.
Regardless of who is te next year, I expect they will have a pretty good year.

The problem is that it’s not good enough for a kid to be talented. He has to be able to make it onto Kirk’s Good Puppy list or he won’t see the field.

You know very well if we had a Rondale Moore, or Nick Bosa, or Karan Higdon he’d find something he didn’t like about their personality and sit them half the game. Fant would be shattering records at OSU or Michigan.

Here is the deal
2017 WITH THE BOWL GAME INCLUDED
2468 passing yards
6 guys with 50 yards or more
6 guys with 100 yards or more
5 guys with 300 yards or more
2 guys with 400 yards or more.
(Most by a wr 530, then 384, then none even broke 50)
2018 without the bowl game included
2732 passing yards
8 guys with 50 yards plus
6 guys with 100 yards plus
5 guys with 300 yards plus
2 guys with 400 yards plus
(Most by a wr 390, then 332, then 328, 1 over 50 and 1 at 47)
Remember we haven't played a bowl yet this year.
Somehow we managed to make 2 TE's shine in the same year.
Why? Because we threw the ball better and spread it around a little more.
If we average the same in the bowl as our avg for the year, we should end up around 3000 passing yards this year.
As a comparison, Indiana Hoosiers have 3094 for the year. Nebraska 2966.
Are we up around and over 4000 like some teams? No.
But if we get 500-700 more yards passing next year in the regular season 700÷ 12 games, 58-59 yards per game,
We should be pretty good. Especially with our rb's having another year and most of our ol.
I expect our O to take a pretty big leap in the off-season.
