Who"s Leaving?

Definitely. Woody's primary offense skill was being taller than all of his competition

And his defensive skill never received the recognition nor appreciation it deserved. I too look forward to seeing Garza and Nunge to see how they develop defensively. We have to get better at defending in the post or these two classes will never realize the potential that has so many of us excited. We also have to get better at defending on the perimeter and I have hopes that Moss and or Dailey can help us there.

when do we usually find out who is going to transfer? Also, I think CW will be a big loss! He play great D, Is awesome in transition. He does need to improve the consistency of his outside shot.

I agree with 75% of this. IMHO:
  • Yes, CW will be a big loss. We need a backup point guard that can give JBo 10 to 15 minutes of rest during the game.
  • Yes, he plays defense better than most and will be missed if he leaves.
  • Yes, he needs to improve on his mid-range/outside shot consistency.
  • No, he is NOT awesome in transition. Too many times this year I saw him drive the lane out of control and turn the ball over. That would change with experience and just relaxing. IMO, however, he was trying to make too much happen to win his starting job back.
If he is going to transfer, however, now is the time. Sit out a year at his new school to get acclimated and then have 2 years to be an asset to his new team.

I'd love to see him stick around, but I doubt he will.

Just my $.02 .. .. GO HAWKS!!!

I really think many are putting awfully high expectations on Connor, It would not surprise me if he did not play basketball.

I'm not other than a back up role. That may change down the road, but not his first year.

I've thought this all along. From what I've read on this site, his favorite sport is baseball. I'm not arguing the idea of playing for his dad and with his brother. Just that if everything is equal and he had to choose his favorite sport, it would be baseball.

I'd love to see him in a Hawkeye basketball uniform. From what I've read, he's a consensus 4 star basketball player with a high bball IQ. It's just that I've heard that major league baseball is his dream job.

GO HAWKS!!!

Connor I think wants to try to play basketball but I would hope he could do it without having to play a major role balancing playing two sports along with academics. That would allow him to focus on baseball where it seems he has set his sights on playing professionally. Things have a way of working out often in ways you don't see coming.

Fran is a pretty smart guy. If his son loves baseball, and thinks that's his future, I doubt Fran would stand in his way.
The odd of his son making the NBA are pretty slim to non existent. I don't know how good of a baseball player he is other than he is pretty good. If I was his son, I think I'd try basketball with a possible coaching career. Fran makes pretty good money.

Connor has mentioned in interviews that he would like to coach eventually but I don't recall him stating what sport. He can become a pretty wealthy man if he ever makes it to the major leagues and then goes on to coach when he hangs it up as an athlete. He has to follow his heart and do what will make him happy and he has the smarts and a good family background to make good decisions to pursue his own path.

Dailey really could have used a redshirt last season. He just looks so scrawny out there. He could really use hitting the meal table with the offensive linemen and hitting the weights plus maybe redshirting this coming season.

Yeah I didn't get that either.. But not redshirting kids more and more seems to be the trend...

Was Dailey's decision. Staff wanted to redshirt him, but he was adamant about not wanting to do that...
Interesting. I remember seeing that Baer when he first came he asked to redshirt. I guess Fran leaves that up to the kid... Kinda surprised by that but then again at the start of the year he didn't know what he had
In Jbo, or Moss. You can throw Williams in that conversation too. By the time we were part of the way through the BIG season and we had an idea of who all was in what role Dailey had already played some and burned his RS. He played a little bit early on I believe. It is what it is I don’t think Williams will end up being a significant player for us so whether he redshirted or not or stays or goes really won’t make a huge difference.

Redshirting is kind of a mutual agreement. Baer wanted to redshirt and FM. knowing Baer wasn't going to play anyway, agreed. The staff wanted Daily to redshirt but he didn't want to.

It also works the other way. Uthoff was redshirting his freshman year at Wiscy. Bo wanted him to play but JU was adamant about not playing, probably because he knew he was leaving anyway.

All this is if I remember correctly. GO HAWKS!!!

You mean JU immediately knew he'd chosen the wrong program...even before his Freshman season began?!

I don't think Williams is going to transfer. There probably would of been more than just a rumor by now. Williams has a lot of talent, and hopefully, we will watch him play next year. Dailey is a talented guy too.

For what it's worth.. on another site, it is claimed that Williams was upset about the rumor and had no truth to it at all.
