Who is the worst owner in pro sports?

The Cowboys thread got me thinking, who is the worst owner in sports? I don't mean the owner that nobody wants to play for, but they guy who runs his team poorly. Let's get some nominations and then we can post a poll or something.

Jerry Jones - Cowboys

Jim Buss - Lakers

Dan Snyder - Redskins

Ralph Wilson - Bills (is this a reach?)

The top three listed make some really head scratching personnel and coaching decisions. The last just doesn't even seem to be trying, much like Don Stearling used to do with the Clippers.

Snyder and Jones are very successful businessmen, but just can't stay out of their own way when it comes to football and are prone to saying really weird/questionable things.

Anyway, what do you guys have to add?

Jerry Jones, hands down. No doubt about it. He has been hindering his franchise for so long now. And I'm loving it. I hope he stays around forever and pile drives his franchise even further into the ground, just like Al Davis did.

Ralph Wilson is pretty bad too though. Just look at him. Pretty soon he's gonna look like Schmiegel from Lord of the Rings.

James Dolan is the worst owner in sports, and it's not particularly close.

Ralph Wilson? Yes, that's a reach.

William Clay Ford, the Lions have not been to a single Super Bowl or won a championship in the 50 years he has owned the team.

Some of the worst teams record wise have also been sold a number of times so it is hard to say their "owner" is the worst because they have had so many.

I will throw the McCaskey family, owners of the Bears, under the bus and put them on this list.

They are in a huge market but dont want to pay squat. They might be doing better now but I doubt it.

Let's go back to 1985 just after the super bowl win and they dont sign some players, they let Wilbur Marshall go rather than give him more money and Marshall was one of the top 3 defensive players at that time. Marshall came back with the redskins and beat the Bears in 86 or 87 in the playoffs.

The bears wouldnt pay Jim McMahon more money so he was gone.

They almost didnt sign Matt Forte a couple years ago and he is the bears offense now.

The Rooneys and the steelers are the same way but they seem to fill in the talent they let go.

How could the steelers let Mike Wallace go which is why their offense is suffering.

OMG! Are they brothers? No really, are they? This is fantastic. Did you put 2 and 2 together yourself, or find it on the world wide web?

Btw. I unfortunately am also a cowboys fan. I would like nothing more than to never see jones in the stadium again. How could one coach for this man?

Jerry is a great owner but a horrible GM.

jerry's probablem is that he thinks he is a great football man. I wish he'd be a great owner and hire some truly great football men.

but to say he is the worst owner in sport is a pharse. how many owners never sniff the playoffs, don't reinvest in their team/infrastructure and have the highest in profits.......i believe jerry truly wants to win - no doubt many owners do not have this high on their list.

Dan Snyder might just be your man for this question.

If you mean "worst owner" in terms of meddling above & beyond their nuts & bolts knowledge, thereby negatively impacting their teams' performance, then Dan Snyder is pretty awful.

he is one of the most profitable owners in professional sports as well - that is pretty telling. in contrast, the yankees are not - for example. who wants to win and then who wants to profit. redskins stadium is always being criticized for poor field conditions. daniel snyder wants to profit.

Oh, so he should sacrifice profits for the common good (i.e. that of the fans)?!?! SOCIALIST!!! COMMIE PINKO!!! ;)

ohhh, i think you might be right. but is he even trying? it's like he's trying to fail. does that count?

Good point.

All of these owners are bad, definitely. But let's remember that Jeffery Loria drove the Expos to the ground, has driven the Marlins to the ground, and, with the backlash from the Miami stadium deal, has potentially screwed the Rays over in seeking a new stadium.

So he has screwed over 3 franchises, one of which he didn't even own. That's pretty bad.

As a Cubs fan I am going to throw in Tom Ricketts. Don't like moves he pulled as owner of the Cubs thus far. He's wanted to cut all bad contracts (cool!) though he has made zero signifigant moves in the offseason and has lost almost 400K in fan attendence since becoming owner. He has combatted lost revenue by put up a video board in left field and adding additional signage for advirtisements. Way to go Tom you pimped out wrigley and made the cubs a bigger laughing stock. Stop playing with daddy's money and sell the team to Mark Cuban or somthing.

Ya know, I was on the Ricketts band wagon at first and was pretty optimistic, but I've been less than impressed with his ownership so far. I know they're trying to build from the farm system, but instead of making big splashes in free agency he signs guys like Edwin Jackson!? What the hell is up with that?? I wouldn't call him "the worst", but he's been pretty terrible, that's for sure.

Like WTF is the "since we are building the farm system we have to be the worst team in the NL" B.S. Invest a little bit into the club so they don't lose 200 games in two years. Also what is with this silly hotel he is building next to the stadium. He is like the H.S. who just bought a car. Better tack on a much cheesy bling stuff on to so it is cool like the other kids. Down the road he we realized he ruined a perfectly good and prized classic. Aint no one putting spinner rims and lambo dorrs on a vintage benz bro.
