I'll ask you not to cheat and look it up (if you can find it). Who do you think has the best +/- for Iowa through the non-conference?

Poll included (vote above), comment away.

I voted Clemmons, although I doubt it's actually him. It just seems like Iowa is a much better team once he started seeing more minutes.

I went with Woody.

Except for the UNI game, he has been incredibly efficient on offense and strong on defense, which can only boost the "+".

I voted Clemmon as well but what the heck is +/-?

The long and short of it - it shows how much value you bring to the court.
It's not an end-all-be-all stat, but the NBA, for instance, uses it to determine which players are best on the court at the same time.

The longer explanation is that it's the point differential with a player in the game or out of the game.

For instance, if Basabe came into a tied game and went to the bench with Iowa down 5 points, he'd have a minus 5 for that time period. If he came into the game with Iowa down 5 and left with the game tied, he'd have a plus 5.

It's a way to see if your team scores more points when you are on the floor or off the floor. The higher the +/-, the more value you are on the court for your team. This assumes a lot of variables, but it's a good overview of how productive your team is when a certain player is on the court.

BTW--It is actually reassuring that there are so many reasonably possible answers to this question.

It does, but when I was crunching the numbers in my brain, it can only realistically be three guys - White, Marble or Gesell. Nobody else brings enough to the table...unless this stat is absurdly calculated.

No way it's Clemmons, btw - he plays 17 mpg and his stats are the same or worse than Eric May's.

Thanks for the explanation. You should have made McCabe an option then. That GW game should have bloated his +/-.

White was my initial thought, simply because he is our best player (IMO).

However, if White scores while Woody or Clemmons is in the game, Woody and Clemmons "+" goes up, too.
