Who do we upset?

This team is going to upset at least one ranked team in Big 10 play. Who does everybody think it will be?


I have us beating two ranked teams at home. I just have a feeling we knock off Illinois at home in the Big 10 opener. Also think we beat Purdue in the last Big 10 game of the year.

I think the only thing/person/team who is going to be upset by Iowa this winter is YOU if you believe we are going to beat Illinois and Purdue.

This team has shown me in the short season we have so far that it does not have any sort of killer instinct. ISU, Wake were all on the ropes, ready to be knocked out. We let them out to start punching and they came out swinging.

But, Fran has accomplished one thing for me: he has indeed got me MAD again...and again...and again...and again. Well done!

The problem with the OP is are you talking about ranked right now? How do we even know who is going to be ranked where by the time we play them? As jparm noted above I'm not sure what you have seen to make you believe this, was it the loss to SOUTH DAKOTA STATE? It only gets harder in conference, not easier.

We have seen flashes that this team can play well. I think they put together a whole game against a quality opponent and upset a couple teams. I was just going off of who is ranked right now. Obviously things can change but it is probably a fairly safe bet that MSU, OSU, Purdue, and Illinois will be ranked throughout the entire season.

The pessimism on this board surrounding a program that is 10 games into a new regime is ridiculous.
 
I think there is a chance for anyone but OSU. They are going to just overpower Iowa with Sullinger down low and I think Iowa will be lucky to keep it under 15-20.

Judging by our record and who we have lost to I would say the optism is ridiculous. No one is saying anything about the regime. Coack K couldn't do squat with what Coach Fran is working with right now either.

The optimism comes from how young this team is and how well they have played at some points this season. Free throw shooting and turnovers have been our killers. I think this team keeps improving and surprises some teams in conference play.

Im not predicting 9-9 or anything like that in conference but I do expect them to win 5 or 6 conference games.
 
Which teams would you consider an upset? I think Iowa beats Northwestern but is that an upset? Not sure.

Iowa could beat Purdue if Basabe disrupts Johnson
 
i think we win 2-3 conference games, but no way do i think we can beat any ranked teams, just too many weaknesses at this point. next year i like our chances though.
 
I'm thinking Illinois and Wisconsin at home. I don't consider them upsets, but I think the Hawkeyes will also beat Northwestern, Michigan and Indiana at home.
 
I don't have schedule in front of me, but the team just does not shoot well enough from any area to win more than 3 games total. Home game success will be helped greatly by people in the seats rather than empty seats.

Yeah, because a team is incapable of getting better as the year goes on, right? :rolleyes: You must be the life of every party.

This team has shown more flash and promise in 10 games than they did in the 100 or so games Lickliter coached. From an offensive standpoint, most people can actually make out what it is we're trying to do. Hell, I think we have more dunks this year than the last 3 years combined. Defensively, Fran is willing and able to switch up defenses and go 3/4 court press, 1/2 court trap, etc.

Two things have held us back this year. Free throws and stretches of poor shooting/shot selection. The free throw thing will work itself out.....right now it's mental. The poor shooting/shot selection is more a case of the kids learning the offense than anything. That will improve as the year goes on and everyone gets more comfortable with their role and how the offense should flow.

I'm as excited as I've been since probably the Horner/Brunner/Haluska/Thomas year.

You had it but then missed the entire aspect of BBall that is holding us back right now and will probably hold us back even more in conference. It starts with a D and ends in -efense.

Nope. It starts with a C and ends in -ontesting jumpers. Our D hasn't been too shabby as a whole, just haven't done a great job of identifying shooters and not leaving guys wide open on the 3-point line.
