White really needs to work on his shot.

he really is not much of a threat on offense latley.

People are just backing off of him and he won't/can't shoot it.

Basabe at the moment is much more aggressive and explosive around the basket.

It's not that he "can't" shoot it, it's that he "won't" shoot it. There's a difference. He has demonstrated a decent mid-range game, problem is he refuses to shoot. He refuses to dribble drive and stop and pop the 10 footer or so. Look at the # of shots he generally takes in a game. He simply does not have a scorers mentality right now. And that is a problem. Unless he developes that, it's going to be very tough for him to improve much on his existing scoring stats and will always be a 12-13 point scorer. Sad thing is he has the talent to be a 16-20 point scorer.

I wouldn't base your assessment of AW on the last game. He was the main focus of PSU's defense because he scored 27 against them last time. He could use to work on his free throws, but otherwise I am happy with the offensive threat he provides.

I've been thinking he needs to utilize his jumper more for almost a month. He's pretty ineffective in the half court game because he's only been willing to try and beat guys to the rim. He's pretty easy to defend when he only does that. In the first PSU game, we were able to get things going a little in transition, which is where he really racks up points.

Yup...he needs to be locked inside the practice facility on a nightly basis. This would serve two purposes. First, it gives him the opportunity to continuously work on his jumper and free throws. And second, if he's locked in there all of the time, the "locked in the practice facility" story probably loses its luster and the announcers won't bring it up anymore.

Good call...but there aren't 7,506 threads about how bad he shoots outside of a dunk...just sayin'

It's actually perplexing to me just how little people have talked about White's slump lately. Over his last seven games, he's shooting just 39% from the floor and averaging 13 ppg; both of those numbers are inflated by his performance against PSU. His percentage in the other six games is just 35%, and his ppg is 10.7. That's not even mentioning his free throw woes in B1G play this year.

Not as dramatically hopeless as Marble's slump was, but still a pretty significant one. Yet nobody's been talking about it.

Not writing the points here are not valid, but if Wisky doesn't CLANG IN a 3, we would STILL be writing about White's amazingly heady play. In fact, that 1 play would have gone down as an all timer IMO.

It usually only comes up when Tim mccormick does the game, along with the troy Murphy comparison.

I would say part of this is because of more time at the 3. White is best when he can attack the basket. From the 3 spot he has to do this from further from the basket and has to do a lot more of it on his own. He isn't a good shooter from distance. He works best when he can get the ball within 15 ft of the hoop (either from a cut and dish or face up post or pick and roll or rebound). Within that range defenders have to respect his shot more meaning they are closer to him allowing for him to beat them with quickness. Not to mention that they are typically a 4 and he is quicker than most 4s. But as a 3 he isn't quicker than the guy guarding him and he is further from the basket...so they back off and don't allow for as easy of a drive.

He needs to be locked in the weight room, if anywhere.

^ this. in essence, is the issue. But what I point out is AW's right hand on the ball when he shoots. Try focusing on his ball hand when he shoots free throws. his palm is not on the ball, the contact is with his thumb pad and finger pads. I dont think that can be consistent.

I would think the coaches would work with him to get his palm and whole hand on the ball, get his elbow in the right angle for him, and work on that. I think he would get more consistency and touch on his shots with more spin for a softer bounce

39% isn’t a slump. 13% is a slump. So is 24% or whatever Oglesthree is shooting.
