For such a high profile recruit coming out of Indiana, he had quite an odd path in college and eventually ending up at Iowa. I believe he had family around the Des Moines area. It was a complete shock when announced he was coming here.

I don't recall what went down at Indiana that made him want to transfer. I mean he was a high recruit and played even as a freshman. May have started. Anybody know why he chose to transfer?

It wasn't the DSM area, it was Washington Iowa down in SE Iowa....

He played two years at indiana. He never really came out and said why but it was heavily insinuated that he hated Bobby Knight. When he transferred from Indiana to Arizona, all he said was that he wasn't happy with his development at Indiana.

Recker leaving IU was one of the final nails in the coffin for Bobby Knight at IU. I think it was right around then or shortly after then that the report came out of him choking a player. They asked Knight to resign but he refused so they fired him.

There were several factors: His Dad lived in Iowa. Alford being the coach had a huge influence. Didn't like playing for Knight. There's more stuff I can't remember.

I remember the runner on the baseline against Indiana, but I forgot the Wisconsin one I remember they won the whole thing, just can't recall in what fashion.

Oh yes, Alford was fairly new and probably played a large part getting him to Iowa. If Alford wasn't the coach, I don't think he would have came to Iowa.

That team DIDN'T win the whole thing. They ran out of gas against OSU in the championship game. It was the team the year before, without Recker, that won the whole thing....

You are right the '01 team lost to the Teyshaun Prince Kentucky team in the 2nd rd. of the NCAA tournament. Yeah, Recker was out with the knee in '01.
