When was your first Hawkeye football game?

Wrong one. Still kindof funny, I guess.

Does this thread have anything to do with the "Obvious dbag is obvious" thread? Because there sure are a lot of dbags in this thread, or at least a couple of huge ones.

1960 vs Wisconsin. Hawkeyes ranked #1 after the win. Have only been to 5 games. Most recent was 2010 vs Wisconsin. I brought my 50 yr old 1960 program with me for luck. Didn't work, but crowd noise was impressive right before that sickening fake punt. Needless to say, the 1960 game was more fun, as Iowa pulled out the win in the final minute.

I am with Neuman going way back. My parents to my brother and I with other family to a 1958 game, I think against Northwestern. I was 7 and just starting to learn football and play it. great times, great teams, and on Jan 1st we watched the rose bowl on tv. I was hooked, been a huge fan ever since planning my fall saturdays around football to the detriment of other things, but who cares.

I added my reply from page 1 of this thread and then saw the wacko stuff on the last page, talk about getting hijacked.

No clue on the actual game I was pretty young but I know it was in the early 80's. Really the only thing I remember was walking out of the tunnel for the first time and seeing the field, it was awesome.

Anywho, back to the orignal topic at hand. I remember only snipits since I was just 5 years old, but my first Iowa Hawkeye football game ever was the 1991 Holiday Bowl. The only things I really remember were the team coming out on to the field, the guy cheerleaders running around with the flags, and then the fireworks after the completion of the game. I do remember how awesome of an experience it was and ever since that day I've been hooked on the black & gold. Maybe I don't remember a whole lot of the actual game since it was pretty boring (13-13 tie and lowest combined score in Holiday bowl history) and since I didn't have a very good understanding of the game yet, being just 5. Also, I just learned this interesting nugget about that game- if Wikipedia is correct, that was the last tie game in major college football bowl history.

1983 home game against Minnesota. I was 7 yrs old and Eddie Phillips needed about 100 yards to break the rushing record. Phillips went 80 yards into our end zone for a score on the first play. Been almost 30 years ago but I still remember it as if it was yesterday. Really wish I had a video copy of it. I've been to more than 100 games since, but that is the one I would like to go back and watch again.
