What Would You Ask Kirk Ferentz?

There have been a number of instances during your tenure that a reserve or back-up has seen extended game time due to the player ahead of him getting injured and said back-up performs very well. It has been noted that you tend to reward players with game time that work hard. Some players don't practice well during the week but light it up on gameday (Chuck Hartlieb). How do you balance this dichotomy of working hard in practice versus performing in games when evaluating talent and determining a starting lineup?

So, I have a one-on-one interview with Kirk tomorrow afternoon. I have my own questions I want to ask, but I'm opening the floor for you to submit yours. If they're good, I will ask them as time allows.

And I'm not going in and asking him when he's going to fire Greg Davis?

Ask a question you would ask and how you would ask it if you were face to face with KF.

Go...

Would you have favored Christian McCaffery skipping last year's Rose Bowl?

I think it is fair to ask him: "Your team finished 120th in total offense this year, what do you think the issue was?" "Scheme, players, execution, coaching......or all the above?"

Well it sounds like the DSM Register is saying KF expects Davis to be back next yr.... So cross that one off the list Rob.

Beat me to it.

Is CJ Beathard 100% healthy this year?

When you started this coaching job, did you think you would be at Iowa this long?

What frustrates you most about coaching college football?

I hope someone asks him the last question in your post.

And I truly hope he replies: "The long hours and low pay."

I'm still curious about how they decide which committed players that are out there that they decide to go after. Like that Lovett kid. Why him as compared to other committed RBs? I know he can't talk about specific recruits now but I'm sure you could find a way to phrase it better than I can.

Many people share your curiosity on how they decide to target kids late in the process.

coach, how often do you seek advice from Ickehawk?
Actually he has taken my 'advice' on a couple occasions over the years. If I gave Rob my name and he brought it up to KF, he would probably remember them............One of the occasions was regarding Al Reisner. Nice try finn, and it almost would have been funny if you would have came up with it BEFORE my post regarding advice from message boards. If you're going to go through life stupid, you could at least try to be creative.........

That's a softball for Bob Ley to ask Ferentz 20 years from now on Outside The Lines. We need football questions.

But the answer to your question would be, "Seeing Harbaugh's face in those stupid glasses as time ran out in the 2016 game."
He won't answer anyway. He doesn't like to nail down specific games or moments in my recollection. Mostly people but he always mentions several former players...always respecting everyone. I want to hear a selfish moment lol

Why do your teams seem to regress further than others in the offseason? This often results in losses to lesser opponents in September.
