What past Iowa player would MOST help this years team?

I would like to see this team with Reggie Evans and Chris Kingsbury. Let Kingsbury, Gatens, and Ogelsby fire the rock and Evans and Basabe crash the boards.

Chris Kingsbury-
1) I want to see him bank another three from the baseline.
2) He was in range as soon as he crossed half court
3) He was alway open..even if there was a guy in his face

Acie Earl was a nice choice as was Greg Stokes but since they are both taken I will take Reggie Evans.........strong guys inside who got lots of rebounds, played great defense, and scored when needed

We need a big body inside

Kent Hill or the Vanilla Gorilla Al Lorenzen would help.

1. Ed Horton
2. Kent Hill

Evans was a good player and rebounder, but these two took care of things on the defensive end.

Chris Street would be the next logical choice, just from his will alone, Iowa would not have lost both games against Purdue and the one against Nebraska.

Brunner, Lohaus, Evans?! Come on, guys. Those were nice players, but let's be serious.

What about Connie Hawkins? Any one of the big 3 point guards could take over a game with the help of the current roster - Lester, Armstrong, Woolridge.

Kevin Gamble and Roy Marble would help in so many places as well. Like any basketball team, this year's Hawks need a guy who can handle the ball and create his own shot.

This question is rigged. You could ask this every year, regardless of circumstance, and the answer would always be the same: Ronnie Lester. The best player in the history of Iowa basketball.
This is the correct answer. Lute Olson has said that Lester was the best player he ever coached, including all the AZ Wildcats who ended up in the NBA. Magic Johnson has said that Lester was his toughest opponent in the Big10.

I understand the argument for a big man in this thread. However, Lester took over games like I've seen no other Iowa player do.

For those of you who did not get to see Lester play, I would argue that his cross-over move was better than Iverson's.

No offense, but some of you need to realize that Iowa basketball played some damned good ball prior to 1982. Here's the top ten:

1. Ronnie Lester
2. Sam Williams
3. JJ Johnson
4. Freddy Brown
5. BJ Armstrong
6. Andre Woolridge
7. Ed Horton
8. Greg Stokes
9. Roy Marble
10. Acie Earl

I like old time guys..... I was about 8 when BJ was playing so it's kind of hard to say I really "saw" him play.

Who is the best player you have seen play for Iowa?

Who is the best guard you have seen play for Iowa?

Well, I'm not very old...just know my history. The best guard I've seen play is BJ. He's the best player I've seen, too. Although, Andre Woolridge would push him in both categories. That said, you don't have to do too much reading or have too many conversations before you realize that Ronnie Lester was heads and shoulders above everyone we've had come through. The Ralph Miller holy trinity of Williams/Johnson/Brown are up there too. For more, you can check out an article I've written, if you feel like it:
