What is "wrong" with the program

I think the Hawks have a great shot at winning the NCAA's.
Look at the #'s
-----------------IOWA----------- PENN ST----------- MINN --------------OK ST.
125 --------------1 ----------------7 ------------------2 -----------------NR
133 --------------3 ----------------NR -----------------7 -----------------1
141 --------------3 ----------------NR -----------------8 -----------------12
149 --------------NR ---------------1 ------------------7 -----------------2
157-------------- 2 ----------------7 ------------------NR---------------- NR
165 --------------6 ----------------1 ------------------12 ----------------NR
174 --------------6---------------- 2------------------ 4----------------- 3
184-------------- 11----------------7-------------------5----------------- NR
197-------------- NR --------------NR -----------------11----------------- 6
HWT------------- 7 ----------------8 ------------------2 -----------------NR

These are predictions of what the NCAA seeds will be. I don't think they will change a lot. If you go off these numbers the Hawks are ok they just need to go out and take care of business. Go Hawks.
Oh by the way this thread is $%^$%

nothing like having ppl that never post in the wrestling forum come in around big ten and ncaa time to give their two cents cracks me up bout how lil they know whats gone on during the season and what is to come

haha! People cant know anything about the sport unless they post continuously throughout the season. Got it.

some of the ppl make me think that from some of their idiotic posts and no this doesn't included hawkfarmers post its a simple question and this is the place to come to ask them

if you look at some of the threads this past week you will see ppl wanting to jump off the ledge and quite frankly those are the ppl im referring to that don't know anything. ones that only read newspapers to get results and not know about the injuries etc

Come on dude, you have been around this site for a long time. It gets the same way on the football and basketball boards after losses. Quit being so butthurt and thinking people just have it out for wrestling.

Sorry pin, didn't mean to upset you. I follow the scores throughout the season and read the forums a little to see people are worried about Iowa not being as dominated. I don't know all the wrestlers or their recruiting prowess or their skill levels, so I thought I would ask. Just happened to see people disappointed with the B1G finish.

not getting upset its ppl that are saying we need to fire brands or saying penn state is the new dynasty w/e it is and they don't have a damn clue what they are talking about.

the negativity towards the bball/football team is flowing over into the wrestling forum and they aren't even on the same level

this past weekend was not a loss in my book anyone that though iowa had a shot at winning it needs to think again

Ok, so my question is next year going to be better with the healing of injuries/getting guys back, and is there a good recruiting class coming in that can compete immediately?

next year will be a great year we have some studs that will be filling in but there are still questions because they will be young of course.

this recruiting class is built for the near future in my eyes i think what the hawks need to do is go get a coach in the heavier weights

So section136/Hawkforce you guys got anything positive to contribute to the wrestling forum? Or you just want to bet against the hawks at nationals and expect them to lose because your are pessimistic? Quit trolling and go back to the basketball forum

To hell with the football and basketball forums. There is nothing wrong with the wrestling program. From 1975-2011, Iowa has won 23 championships, Minnesota 3, OklahomaST. 7, IowaSt. 2, ArizonaSt. 1, and PennSt. 1. Remember, Taylor signed to go to ISU. Sanderson left and so did Taylor and Long. Did you ever just sit back and wonder why this stud went to Minnesota or PennSt, or OKST? Could it be because the school was better fit for him academically? Maybe the stud sat back and realized that he wouldn't really get a chance to wrestle until he was a junior so I'll go somewhere that I know I'll be able to wrestle right away. Look at Jeff Kerber. He went to Cornell for academics and then wrestling. "PARITY". I'll take the bet on Iowa finishing not in the top three, because they will. Hawk Farmer. For saying you don't follow wrestling very much you sure seem to know alot of what's going on.:p

I guess I don't see it the same way, looks like we will have big holes at 141 149, 197 at least. I guess i don't expect a frosh to come in at upper weights and be a stud for Iowa next year and don't see alot ready to fill in at 141/149 either.

One other thing to consider that the Hawks have to contend with is the fact that 15-20 years ago, there was only 1 Dan Gable coaching. Now there are students of Gable coaching all over the country. I agree that this weekend may have been a disappointment but I thought over all we wrestled well. If we take care of biz, get a few bonus points and a little help, the Hawks could very well bring home the award that as Hawkeye Wrestling fans we covet like no Other!

Herkeyhawk hit the nail on the head in his second post. Add in the 9.9 scholarships and Cael being a coach in the best state for college wrestling recruits, and you have your answer.

Pin - I completely agree with your statement about getting a coach in the heavier weights. I love Backes and think he's done a great job but I think the Hawks could benefit from also having a coach that can roll around with the 197 and heavyweights and push them cause right now the competition seems a little thin up top especially next year when Rasing is done. Plus I think it would help with recruiting the big boys if we had a coach that was fresh off having some major success in the competitive circuit.

Kurt wrestled 197 in college. i promise you he is wrestling anyone in that room from probably 174- Hwt.
Also our recruiting of bigger guys has been good the last few years. telford was a top recruit same w/ Brooks, Burak, and Meyers for this year. that's basically 174-Hwt for the next 3-4 years. Honestly I don't know how Backes does in the room working with the guys but i think he's the easy guy to throw under the bus cuz he's not an 'iowa guy.' just my opinion

If you are a straight up wrestling fan wouldn't it be better for a team like Iowa to not be such a dominant sport in the sport as long as non-traditional programs are winning titles essentially spreading the popularity of the sport?

Shouldn't you be happy that a team like Penn State is a title contender now? Just a thought I had.

There's always been other title contenders, we just prefer iowa to keep winning them

The only thing that is wrong with the program is that PSU scores a crap load of bonus points. Just look at the placement points: PSU 100 MN 100 IA 97. PSU had 10 scorers, MN 9, Iowa 8. All of Iowa's 8 wrestlers placed 5th or better. Take the 8 points PSU scored at Big Tens and throw them out, they won't score a single point at NCAAs. The 9 that scored for MN might score points but I don't think C Yohn or C Dardannes (who had a bad BTT) to All American. All 8 of Iowa's wrestlers will All American after what they showed this weekend.

We're not out of it and we concede nothing.
