what do you guys think about the frequency of night games in kinnick?

Where did you tailgate in '85? Me and my crew alternated between Field House Field and a private lot (yard) just east of 711 Melrose, where my GF's brothers and sisters congregated. Ahh, memories. :)

Fieldhouse. When tailgaing and early drinking is as important as it is...er WAS, yeah, WAS...to me, you had no trouble getting there early enough to get prime spot.

Also liked "roaming", especially the garage lots behind hospital.

And of course, Coaches Corner for TV if I left a game early because I forgot to bring a coat!

Being in the eastern time zone, I'm a fan of the 12:00 or 3:30 games. Leaves the evening open to do more.

Yeah, Eastern time zone changes it up a bit. But if you are in Indiana, you are on Western end of the zone. That's gotta suck a bit since, "light" wise you are effectively in Central Zone but on Eastern time.

how do you call yourselves fans of iowa football and hate 11am games!? 11am start is signature, hawkeye tradition

Yeah, an Iowa tradition that goes all the way back....for what, like the last 10 years?

How old are you?

No kidding. More than once, when we used my choice '77 Cutlass Supreme  :D as the tailgate mobile, I would roll out of bed (either still drunj from night b-4 or hungover) at 6:30 and drive over to the Field House lot just before it opened, find a prime spot, lock up the car, and walk back to my apartment for a couple more hours' sleep. Then we'd reconvene around 10 AM and start over.
Which explains why today, my liver resembles a Kingsford charcoal briquette.

The 11am games have mostly been a staple the entire KF time.... I don't remember details before 96-97 though.... Had more important things to worry about on Saturdays..... Like beer.... But I'm not a fan of 11am kicks...

Yep, being light out later didn't seem right when I first moved here. I definitely like having an extra hour daylight compared to what I'm used to.

Love the early kicks! I can wake up on Saturday to a 9am kick pacific time to start the day, then have the rest of the day free.

1:00 games would be ideal.

Back then in the stone ages, we took 1:05 for granted, but yeah, it's very favorable.
Of course, being whiny entitled 'merrkans even in the 1980s, we often wailed like we were being scalded when we didn't get moar 2:30 "marquee" games.

The one game I would have LOVED to tailgate at would have been 2004 Wisconsin. Love "cold" tailgating as it is, but knowing OSU had beat Michigan AND we could keep Sconnie out of the mix PLUS drinking and eating would have made it a perfect storm.

Night games are overrated. Maybe its me but i just hate waiting all day in anticipation.

You mean like the 2003 Orange Bowl, with my wife suggesting we hang around the hotel pool all day? I was ready to strangle anyone that got near me by noon. What made it worse is there were no other games that day to blunt the impact.

How about the Arizona game... it was like a 9 PM start. Wait all day and the game prior runs late so its not on tv for the start and by the time it comes on im so ****** i cant see straight.

Another brutal experience, along with waiting on yahoo radio for the 2004 Az State game, also delayed (due to storm).

Worst thing about Az game was when they broke in to show the two early Az scores.

Hello, ESPN? Tell them not to start without you, or don't YOU all start without US!

That completely sucked.

1100 games suck! Not saying it's hard to start drinking at 830 but... Would be nice to start at drinking closer to lunch. Frosted flakes getting washed down with a coors light is rough at times.

That game was at 2:30 so we didn't officially know OSU had beaten Michigan until we were already in the stadium, but it wasn't very close so we had a good idea prior to that. And if you love cold tailgating, that would have been a very good one for you. It was miserable but at the end of the game, totally worth it

I think the heat is one reason why they play so many night games.

I think I would be happy if Iowa had two a year, but like all the start times for different reasons.

That's why they do it here in Austin. 100,000 people packed into a stadium in 100 degree heat is not real pleasant. It's not exactly cool at 6pm, but at least the sun has started to go down and that makes a huge difference.
