What are we looking at for next year?

Why do you think baer is limitied athletically?

He is tall and quick... in today's game he got a offensive rebound and went up with easy and dunked it.

I know you've seen Woody try to dunk...

Baer is not un-athletic... he is just skinny.

I agree. And I think Baer worked on his skills during his RS season. I think he will work on his strength this off season. I think he will start next season but who knows. I am very confident he will play a lot of minutes and have a lot to do with how successful we are next year.

Maybe not so much unathletic, but not strong enough. He plays fine defense and can score which he showed today. His shot IQ isn't the greatest though. He can jump and has heart, and hustles which I love. I just don't see him as a starter. I think he is like Gabe, he has the ability to start, but he would be better suited as an energy guy off the bench instead of a 25 minute type of player. If he adds 10-15 Lbs of muscle he will be alot better.

I don't think Williams will average more points than Clemmons. He won't be as strong. He won't have as much experience. And I can't imagine he will defend as well. Clemmons defense on Forbes is a big reason we swept MSU...all IMO of course.

I guess you're remembering mid season Clemmons and I'm remembering late season Clemmons. No way Williams was going to be as good as good Clemmons was this year. But I think had he been given more time, Williams could have been better than Clemmons was at the end of the year. I just wish we could have seen a little more of good Clemmons. I'm also pretty high on Williams so who knows.

I would rather a guy error on the side of bad shot selection that have a guy error on the side of overly causious. At least that way you're shooting with confidence.

We're better next year and here is why...

WOODY VS. REPLACEMENT
GESSEL VS REPLACEMENT
SAPP VS REPLACEMENT
UTHOFF VS REPLACEMENT

UTHOFF will be the hardest to replace, but really?

I truly believe this is a case of addition by subtraction.

We will be a team of pretty talented forwards and shooting guards, with no true center and most especially, no true point guards. Fran's inability to close the deal on point guards will be the biggest thing holding us back. We'll do well against mid ranked competition, but we will struggle greatly against the top teams with quickness and defensive intensity like we saw against Nova. Maybe a transfer at point will come along, but that is our achilles heel.

I won't miss Gesell and Woodbury at all. I will miss Uthoff's talent, but he didn't seem to provide any leadership or fire like White did. Good Clemmons and bad Clemmons are a wash so I don't think we lose much there. I'm actually very excited for next season. Not necessarily because I think they will be good, but because we will see a lot of new faces, and have some hope that their upside will be higher. A lineup of Williams, Jok, Jones?, Wagner and Cook is exciting with guys like Baer, Moss, Hutton, etc. off the bench.

seems everyone on the first page forgot about Dale Jones. I know ACL injuries (I think) are tough to recover from but he'll get minutes if he's able to play.

not dissimilar to having weisman graduate at running back. definitely addition by subtraction, in 3 cases at least. will miss uthoff. he was asked to do too much and he wilted down the stretch. a lot of guys would have i think

I would agree with your assessment; because, there seems to be a lot of talent waiting for their chance. Iowa is going to have a lot of strong inside players next year. Pemsl and Kriener aren't skinny guys, and I know Cook is a strong guy. Wagner is pretty strong, and he will be a lot better next year. Gessel and Clemmons are probably around six ft, and the guys that will be replacing them are six ft. four to six ft. seven. I think they are pretty talented guys. I've enjoyed watching Gessel and Clemmons but they aren't great offensive or defensive threats. Woody is probably a pretty good defensive player, but he is lacking offensively. Uthoff is a gifted player, but overall I think next years team will be pretty good. There should be a lot of excitement for the PTL this year.

While we have yet another disappointing seasons end it makes me wonder who is going to start next year, who is going to be the team leader and will we be good enough to get to the NIT or better.
Of course Jok will start and be the number one option on offense. Uhl, I think he needs to make a huge leap in basketball IQ in order to be dependable. Will Baer start or is he to valuable coming off the bench. Will this years freshman or next years freshman be quality starters? Any thoughts?
Starting with Jok and Baer at off guards then I see Uhl slimming down and at small forward. Tyler Cook will start I' m certain of that, then a stronger Wagner will share time at PF/C. Bohannon and Williams share the point unless Mac brings in a Juco or transfer. Don't know where this puts Dale. If healthy and hits threes he's in the rotation. I really like the aggressive play of the center from western Iowa Kriener, he might find minutes but Pemsl will red shirt. That leaves Ellingson not a D1 player I suspect he transfers. The bench sees Moss, Hutton, and Flemming playing second unit. I would think Jok and Cook start every game next year but I expect Fran uses many diffrent lineups. I believe almost every player gets minutes early until Fran settles on a lineup come conference games. The word 4 years ago was potential. Unfortunately we got some players with low ceilings. The players for next year will be more athletic, tougher, and some of them maybe should have been playing more this year. When your seniors are being humiliated and down 30 plus points with less than 10min. to play maybe Fran should have emptied his bench.

I see *next* year's Iowa team being very similar to *this* year's Ohio State team, but with Jok. And that could make us somewhat decent.

However, unless there is a legitimate continual/sustainable 2nd scoring threat, Jok is going to be nullified night in and night out.

.500 conf bubble team is our upside.

I'm looking forward to having more size and better rebounding, Jones return and Cook, Kreiner and Pemsl should help that greatly. It was the biggest decline from last years class with the loss of White and Olaseni. I'm also looking forward to seeing Hutton and Moss.
