Wells Fargo Arena

It really needs to be a little mini-tourney. Seed the teams based on Sagarin or somebody elses rankings on the Monday before and then play 1-4 and 2-3 on Saturday and then the two losing teams battle for 3rd in the first game on Sunday the winners play for the state championship in the second game.

That's how it was. The place started filling up with red soon after the Iowa game. We watched the Iowa fans leave and moved from nosebleed seats to the sixth row that four Iowa fans vacated.......

Could only watch one half of the ISU/Drake game.....

What Iowa fan in their right mind would stick around to watch the Clowns play Drake. Maybe to root against them but hell i can go home and do that and not have to listen to their mindless drivel.

During the Maury John years, I went to almost every game at Vets.....

Went to every game the year the made the Final Four, lost to UCLA by a point or two, and defeated North Carolina by 20 points in the consolation game......

Keno's team had extraordinary Chemistry. They were a pleasure to watch.

I really enjoyed Johnny Orr's teams at ISU, also Larry Eustachy's teams......

Bulldogs and Clones could have been National Champs those years however they were shafted by the refs, especially Eustachy. Homer ref made ridiculous calls near the end of the game. He lived within 20 miles of the SilverDome. After he took the game away from the Clones, and they were beating the Spartans, Eustachy marched out on the floor, and told the ref what he thought of him, and was ejected. I didn't blame him for his behavior......

You didn't have to do anything really to shut up 20 students. UNI had a drawing for 50 students to win a seat to the game. I won one and was there, but I know a few people didn't go because they didn't have a friend going or whatever, so there were probably 20-30 students there. Later on, I think people realized no one was coming, and everyone moved down and people with worse seats were moving down into that section too.

In case you were wondering, I supported my school wearing purple, but was hoping the Hawks would win. Didn't cheer either way really, but nearly did when Gesell hit that and one.

$70 was a lot of money for the ticket. However, I was 15 rows up and just between the free throw line and the top of the key. Really close to the action, and it was pretty darn exciting! Even though my Carver/H-I ticket is dead center court and 25 rows up, I was a lot closer to the action at WF. The quickness, the physical play, the hand checks, the violence underneath the basket, the speed of the ball when it was passed, were fascinating. I could clearly see the expressions on the faces of the coaches and the players. And, I got to watch Ed H. screw up royally a couple of times!

I made a mini vacation out of the trip. 6 hours to Des Moines from home; 2 nights at the Quality Inn right next to the arena. Attended the Hawkeye Huddle; had two of the best fresh seafood meals in recent memory. Listened on the radio to the Packers beat the Bears on the way home. And, though I will be judged a complete idiot from what I've read above, I stayed and watched the entire Drake/ISU game and really enjoyed it. I love college basketball...some of the very best athletes around.

Will go back next year, God willing and the creek don't rise.

I stayed to root against them. Freaking Drake grads, taking up all of the good jobs around Des Moines. BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!

Don't mean to be a Debbie Downer, but I don't believe you can have "Fresh Seafood" in Des Moines. You're over a thousand miles from the ocean, how fresh could it be? ;)

That being said I'm happy you had a nice weekend and wish I could have been there.
